Wedding with 50 people shut down in London Covid-19 hotspot as capital faces Tier 3

The organiser of a wedding in a London coronavirus hotspot could face a £10,000 fine after police shut down a reception attended by more than 50 people.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to an industrial estate in Creek Road, Barking, in east London, on Saturday evening and found a large number of people in breach of coronavirus regulations.

Under Tier 2 regulations, wedding ceremonies and sit-down receptions are only permitted to have 15 attendees. Barking and Dagenham has the second highest coronavirus infection rate in London with 298.7 per 100,000 of the population.

And it comes as calls for London to be urgently moved to Tier 3 are increasing as coronavirus infection rates rise in 24 out of 32 of the capital's
