'We want to go to school': Kids plead for return with 1.5m facing mental health crisis

Learning in lockdown at home is having a detrimental impact on kids across the country. It’s estimated 1.5 million children in England will need support for depression, anxiety, and other mental health difficulties in the aftermath of Covid-19, analysis by the Centre for Mental Health found.

And the gap in learning progress between disadvantaged children and their peers had increased by almost half by the end of the 2020 academic year, according to the National Foundation for Educational Research.
