PHILADELPHIA - The family of the officer who became Temple University Police Department's first line-of-duty death has filed a lawsuit against his alleged killer's parents. According to Marrone Law Firm, LLC, the legal representation for the family of Sgt. Chris Fitzgerald, the civil action lawsuit was filed against 18-year-old Miles Pfeffer's father, mother and the mother's boyfriend. The lawsuit was filed in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday morning, alleging the trio is liable for negligence and wrongful death in the fatal shooting.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is fighting for his life and a teenager is injured after police say someone shot them Wednesday night in North Philadelphia. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 1800 block of Woodstock Street for reports of a shooting. Police found an 18-year-old shot in the foot and another man shot in the head. Both were taken by police to Temple University Hospital. No arrests were immediately reported.

Palm Bay, Fla., police said.The Palm Bay Police Department was alerted to an unresponsive infant found inside a car around 1 p.m. local time on Sunday, according to Florida news station Fox-35.In a statement, the Palm Bay Police Department said the infant had been in the car for about three hours while her parents attended a religious service.Once discovered, the 11-month-old was quickly transferred to Palm Bay Community Hospital but was pronounced dead.Temperatures reached about 30 C in Palm Bay on Sunday when the baby was left alone in the car.“This is an unfortunate incident, and our condolences and prayers go out to the family,” reads a statement from Palm Bay police Chief Mario Augello.The 11-month-old and her parents have not been publicly identified.Police are currently investigating the incident.

BRISTOL, Pa. - A Bucks County woman is facing charges after authorities say she shot and killed her husband at a local park Tuesday morning. Sammar Khan, 40, is accused of shooting 38-year-old Faisal Iqbal during what witnesses described to police as an argument at Bristol Borough Wharf. It's alleged that Khan, a Levittown resident, and Iqbal were talking near the coastline when Khan started speaking loudly in another language. Witnesses reported hearing a ‘pop sound’ followed by Khan and Iqbal wrestling. More gunshots were heard by witnesses before Khan and Iqbal started walking towards the parking lot, police said.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESIqbal asked a witness to call 911, at which time police say Khan shot Iqbal twice which caused him to collapse in the grassy area between the water and parking lot. It's alleged that as Iqbal laid on the ground defenseless, Khan walked over and shot him twice in the torso and once in the head. Responding officers from the Bristol Borough Police Department found Khan with blood on her clothing.

TRENTON, N.J. - A police pursuit that ended in a crash on a New Jersey highway led to the discovery of firearms stolen from a Pennsylvania gun store, sources say.FOX 29 was on scene at Rt. 29 in Trenton near the Calhoun Street Bridge, where Trenton and Middletown Township Police were investigating and collecting evidence. Police say officers were chasing the car before it crashed on the New Jersey highway. Evidence collected from the vehicle's trunk included multiple firearms, both assault rifles and handguns, with tags from a gun store. Sources tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley, that the chase began in Pennsylvania at a gun store in Bucks County. Five people were captured on surveillance video using a Kia, reported stolen out of Philadelphia, to access the second story of the LugerMan gun store in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, sources say. While inside, the suspects broke glass cases and stole the firearms, per police sources. As officers from the Middletown Township Police Department arrived on scene, they chased the Kia and used stop sticks to disable the vehicle. Law enforcement sources say the vehicle made it over the Calhoun Street Bridge, where Trenton Police got involved, capturing three of the five suspects. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESEugene Golubtsov, the owner of the LugerMan store, spoke with FOX 29 and detailed the events he saw on his store's surveillance video.

The Sri Lanka Navy said that 148 corpses were recovered from water bodies across Sri Lanka from 22nd May 2022, to 22nd May 2023.The Diving & Salvage Unit of the Sri Lanka Navy renders its assistance to search persons who go missing in water bodies and recover bodies of drowned persons.In the past year, from 22nd May 2022 to 22nd May 2023, the Sri Lanka Navy has promptly rendered diving assistance and has recovered 148 corpses of people who died by drowning, due to various causes.Among the 148 corpses recovered by the Navy in the past year, there were 18 cases of misfortune during fishing, and 111 incidents due to carelessness of people.The Navy provides free diving assistance to search for drowned persons and recover bodies in response to requests from police stations in various parts of the island. However, the Navy said that it faces hardships in these endeavours, as the price of diving equipment has risen steeply and they have to incur a considerable amount of money when transporting men and equipment to distant locations.By being cautious during daily tasks and fishing activities, it is possible to reduce the number of deaths caused by drowning in water bodies. Thus, the Sri Lanka Navy is urging the general public to be mindful and take necessary precautions in order to decrease the occurrence of drowning incidents.

The CEO of a mental health care firm has hit back at a critical watchdog report into its Stockport hospital - where three young women died within weeks last year. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) deemed child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) services at Cheadle Royal Hospital, also known as the Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal, to be 'inadequate' following a recent inspection.

(Taste By Spellbound) Employees at a Connecticut bakery were left terrified last week after a hungry black bear barged into the garage and helped itself to 60 cupcakes. Miriam Stephens, owner of Taste by Spellbound in the town of Avon, said workers were loading cakes into a van for delivery on Wednesday when the bear strolled in. The employee "looked up and saw a bear staring at her from the South Windsor side," Stephens wrote in an Instagram post.

Deputy Chief Dave Meldrum confirmed the forest fire began as a call on Juneberry Lane in Upper Tantallon, N.S.By now, the out-of-control blaze had destroyed homes, forced the evacuation of thousands of residents, and led to a local state of emergency for the Tantallon and Hammonds Plains areas.While officials haven’t confirmed how many homes were damaged, Meldrum said at least 10 structures were destroyed. PHILADELPHIA - A shooting claimed the life of another teen as Memorial Day gun violence continued overnight in Philadelphia.Police say they found the 16-year-old boy on the 2400 block of Clarion street just after midnight Monday.He was shot one time in the head, and pronounced dead on scene by medics.

PHILADELPHIA - Three 15-year-old boys became the victims of another act of violence that also claimed the life of a man over the Memorial Day weekend.The quadruple shooting erupted on the 4500 block of Mulberry Street just before 9:30 p.m Sunday.All three 15-year-olds were shot several times, and transported to a local hospital.

PHILADELPHIA - A traffic stop quickly became a homicide investigation after a deadly discovery was made in Philadelphia's Kingessing section Sunday night.Police had pulled over a speeding car on 57th and Springfield streets when they found an unresponsive man in the back seat.The 20-year-old was suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.As officers transferred the victim to their patrol car, police say the driver and passenger jumped back into the car and sped off, leaving the victim behind.MORE HEADLINES:Police then transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died just minutes later.

CAPE COD, Mass. - The National Park Service is offering proposals from prospective lessees for eight historic dune shacks along the Cape Cod National Seashore in Provincetown and Truro, Massachusetts. And while the government has said the fair market value for the shacks is between just $2,000 and $16,000 a year, depending on the size of the dwelling. The shacks are extremely rustic, most with limited running water and electricity, and most of current lessees use outhouses. The remote buildings are open to all bidders "as-is with all faults" and the lessees are expected to maintain the shacks and pay for repairs.
