Coronavirus lockdowns in the UK would remain in place until late May if it followed Israel's blueprint for easing restrictions.

European countries have found themselves being compared to Israel thanks to the country's swift Covid-19 vaccination rollout that has put it well ahead of others in the race to defeat the pandemic.

Israel is lifting its lockdown in a three-stage programme now that half of eligible Israelis - about 3.5 million people - have been fully or partially vaccinated.

Boris Johnson is set to announce England's "road map" out of its third national lockdown, with schools expected to reopen under a staggered approach from March 8.
