The UK has recorded the highest number of daily coronavirus cases since the middle of July. A further 49,156 people tested positive for the virus as of Monday (18 October), according to the latest data from the government.
Today's figures show the greatest increase in cases since July 17. On that day, 54,674 new cases were reported - and 41 deaths. A further 45 coronavirus related deaths have also been reported in the last 24 hour period. On Sunday, another 45,140 infections were recorded across the nation - the largest rise since July 20.
