UK official coronavirus death toll rises by just 16 as death toll hits 44,236

The UK coronavirus death toll has risen by 16, the latest official figures show. This is the second lowest daily death toll in the UK since lockdown began, and just one more than the lowest daily rise of 15, on Monday, June 22.

The official death toll across all settings is now at 44,236 in the latest figures from the Department of Health today. This includes hospitals, care homes and the community.

Today's rise in the death toll is lower than the 22 reported yesterday - which was one of the lowest on a Sunday since the lockdown began in March.

The UK's true death toll is believed to be higher, at least  55,046, based on death certificates mentioning Covid-19 as a cause.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. - Washington Commanders safety Deshazor Everett has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the fatal car crash that took the life of his girlfriend Olivia Peters. According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Everett was charged after investigators determined he was driving over 90 mph just before the crash. Authorities say Everett, 29, turned himself into the Louduon County Adult Detention Center Tuesday afternoon. RELATED: Washington Football Team player discharged from hospital after car crash that killed Maryland womanBoth Everett and Peters were traveling north on Gum Spring Road near Ticonderoga Road in a 2010 Nissan GT-R the night of the crash in December 2021. Loudoun County Sherrif's Office said the vehicle the couple was in veered off the right side of the roadway, struck several trees, and rolled over.  Peters was taken to StoneSprings Hospital where she died from her injuries. Everett was taken to Reston Hospital Center and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Everett posted a $10,000 secured bond and has been released from custody.
