A hospital in southwest England has closed to new patients following a surge in coronavirus cases. As of 8am this morning, Weston General Hospital in Weston Super Mare, Somerset is not accepting any new patients, including to its A&E department.
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, put out a statement on Monday morning explaining its decision.
The trust wrote: "Weston General Hospital will temporarily stop accepting new patients, including into its A&E department, as of 8am today. "This is a precautionary measure in order to maintain the safety of staff and patients in response to the high number of patients with coronavirus in the hospital.
