UK Covid hospital deaths rise by 508 with healthy 25-year-old among casualties

The number of daily coronavirus hospital deaths have risen by 508 with a healthy 25-year-old tragically among the casualities.

England recorded 407 new deaths, while Wales recorded 25, Scotland 67 and Northern Ireland 9 in the last 24 hours. It is the lowest Friday hospital death toll since New Year's Day.

By comparison, the tolls announced on recent Fridays were 649 on February 5, 865 on January 29, 1,143 on January 22, 1,025 on January 15, 886 on January 8 and 420 on January 1.

The latest estimates show the UK's R rate has dropped to between 0.7 and 0.9 after an estimate of 0.7-1.0 a week ago. It's the first time it's been below one since last July.
