He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

UK coronavirus death toll now at 233

The British death toll from coronavirus has risen to 233, with 53 further fatalities in England. Two people died in Wales and one person died in Scotland.

In Northern Ireland, 22 extra cases of Covid-19 were reported with the total number of cases now at 108. This is the largest jump in cases since the outbreak began in the North.

The total number of people to test positive for coronavirus in the UK is now 5,018 - up from 3,983 on Friday, the British Department of Health said.

Boris Johnson has warned the coronavirus outbreak is "accelerating", as he urged people not to visit their parents on Mother's Day.
