Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reiterated calls for a full investigation into potential Russian “war crimes” in remarks to reporters on Sunday.
His comments follow the recent discovery of a mass burial site in Ukraine that appears to show evidence that some of the dead were tortured.
Trudeau said at a press conference in England that the actions of Russia “clearly include war crimes.” “The U.K. and Canada…stand up in support of Ukraine and push back against Russia’s illegal actions which increasingly, clearly include war crimes…whether we think of what we found in Bucha or the discoveries of mass graves in reclaimed territories by Ukraine,” said Trudeau. Trudeau said Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, his supporters, and the Russian military “need to be held accountable for the atrocities they’ve had and continue to commit Ukraine.” The mass graves site near the northeastern city of Izium, recently recaptured from Russian forces, appears to be one of the largest discovered in Ukraine.
