A base news release said Fort Gordon’s Department of Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services responded immediately.An Army spokesperson initially told FOX News ten soldiers were injured, but later said one of the soldiers had passed away from those injuries."It is with a heavy heart Fort Gordon confirms one of the soldiers in the lightning strike this afternoon succumbed to their injuries," said Fort Gordon’s Deputy Public Affairs Officer Anne Bowman.The soldier’s identity will not be released until his family is notified, Bowman said.Pentagon officials say the soldiers were treated at the medical center.Fort Gordon has not released specifics on the condition of the nine other injured soldiers.

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis doctor who performed an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio took the first step Tuesday toward suing Indiana's attorney general for defamation.Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist who gave the girl a medication-induced abortion on June 30, filed a tort claim notice over what she says are false statements that Attorney General Todd Rokita has made about her and her work.Bernard received widespread attention after she gave an interview to the Indianapolis Star about the child, who traveled to Indiana from Ohio for the abortion. A so-called fetal heartbeat law took effect in Ohio last month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v.

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. - A convicted sex offender is back behind bars after deputies say he tried to contact a minor while out on parole.Officials say nearly one month ago, Christopher Baxter was released on parole from the Georgia Department of Corrections and registered as a sex offender in Butts County.On Tuesday, The Butts County Sheriff's Office says investigators monitoring Baxter arrested him again.According to the sheriff, Baxter is accused of contacting a female minor in another state and was trying to get inappropriate pictures of her. "Investigator Riley and Sergeant Munger’s quick action and good work has successfully placed this predator back behind bars, where he belongs," Sheriff Gary Long said. "I hope he spends the rest of his natural-born life caged, where he is no longer allowed access to another innocent child."Court records show Baxter had been convicted in 2019 for sexual battery of a victim under the age of 16 and child molestation.

UPPER MACUNGIE, Pa. - Officers in Pennsylvania shot and killed a snake after they say it wrapped itself around a man's neck Wednesday afternoon. Police from the Upper Macungie Township Police Department were called to a home on the 1400 block of Church Street for reports of a man in cardiac arrest. When officers arrived they found a 28-year-old man lying on the floor with the mid-section of a snake wrapped around his neck, according to police. An officer managed to shoot the 15-foot-long snake in the head and pull the man to safety, police said. The man received emergency medical treatment and was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - A week before it could walk out on strike against numerous Atlantic City casinos, the resort’s main casino workers union is warning that a strike could cost four casinos a total of $2.6 million a day in losses. Local 54 of the Unite Here union says the Borgata could lose $1.6 million a day, and Caesars, Harrah’s and Tropicana could collectively lose an additional $1 million a day. The union made its projections based on past casino revenue reported to the state, and assumed that a strike would cause revenue to decline by 25% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2021.

  PHOENIX - Eight people were rescued from Camelback Mountain after multiple members of their hiking group began suffering from heat-related illness Thursday afternoon, Phoenix fire officials said.A women's church group had reportedly started hiking Echo Canyon Trail earlier in the morning for a retreat. Fire officials say the group consisted of women from Alabama, Tennessee, and California, and that they were filming for a documentary called "Bad Girls Gone God," where they embark on strenuous activities to get closer to God.The hikers reportedly told fire crews that they did not do their research before starting the hike at 7 a.m. Several of the hikers were wheeled down the trail, and two had to be brought down by helicopter.

PHILADELPHIA - A judge ruled Tuesday that two men will go on trial for murder after a fight at Pat's King of Steaks last year killed a 28-year-old man.Omar Arce, 33, and Jose Alberto Flores-Huerta, 34, were arrested in September 2021 after they were caught on surveillance video outside the iconic South Philadelphia cheesesteak shop.Police say the brawl erupted between two groups after the Philadelphia Union soccer game against Club America at Subaru Stadium in Chester. Isidro Cortez, 28, died after video showed him being pummeled with kicks and punches and beaten with a metal trash can lid.  His 64-year-old father and a friend were also hurt.Police say Arce and Flores-Huerta were one of four men sought for the deadly brawl.
