Anything that undermines or shakes peoples confidence in the Northern Ireland Protocol should not be happening without a lot of consultation with the people who are most impacted, Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said.
On Friday the European Commission signalled its intention to trigger Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol in response to the row with AstraZeneca over the supply of vaccines.
Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne, Mr Coveney said triggering Article 16 of the Northern Ireland protocol was a mistake that should not have happened.
