PHILADELPHIA - A line of severe thunderstorms claimed the life of one person in Sussex County, Delaware Saturday, as they ripped through the Delaware Valley, dumping copious rain, dousing the region with frequent lighting, strong, gusty winds and hail.Forecasters warned of the potential for severe weather, as part of a system that produced many strong tornadoes in the Midwest and southern states Friday evening, advanced into the northeast Saturday.Across the Delaware Valley, storms began to develop about 5 p.m., moving west to east, igniting the northern and western Philadelphia suburbs with warnings, both severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, as the system marched across the area on its way to the Jersey shore.Hail reigned down during a severe weather outbreak in Mt. Laurel, N.J.In its wake, the system dumped drenching rain, causing flooding in some locales, such as the Schuylkill Expressway, in King of Prussia and frequent cloud to ground lighting.In Sussex County, Delaware, officials say one person died after a reported tornado caused a house to collapse.

Endangered whale spotted swimming with calf in rare footage

CAPE COD, Mass. - A rare sighting was captured in the Cape Cod Bay in Massachusetts showing a North Atlantic right whale and her calf swimming side by side. The pair was seen March 27. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution posted footage of the moment. Police: Man shoots and kills large dog attacking woman, small dog in Oxford Circle

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police say a man took matters into his own hands when he witnessed a dog attack in Oxford Circle over the weekend.Officers were called to the 6300 block of Horrocks Street for a shooting just before noon Saturday.Witnesses reportedly told police that a large dog, possibly a pit bull or mastiff, was attacking a woman and her smaller dog when a man fired two shots at the larger dog.MORE HEADLINES:The dog ran off after getting hit, and was later found dead on the 1500 block of Levick Street and transported to ACCT Philly by police.Police say the smaller dog suffered a bite, but no other injuries were reported.
