The $14-billion deal that will see Volkswagen, the world’s largest automaker, set up a manufacturing presence in Canada for the first time in history, took a year of negotiations on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a deadly crash on a state highway. Officials say troopers responded to the crash on Route 202 N at mile marker 17.2 shortly after midnight on Friday morning. According to authorities, the preliminary investigation revealed 42-year-old Matthew Deangelis was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the roadway in a 2015 GMC Sierra when it collided head on with a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. Deangelis was pronounced dead at the scene and the three people in the Volkswagen were transported to Paoli Hospital for treatment. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice have not detailed the extent of their injuries but suspected they were life-threatening. The crash remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a deadly crash on Route 202 in Chester County.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released video of a suspect and vehicle they believe was involved in an incident where gel-like pellets struck a member of a FOX 29 News crew. The incident occurred on the west side of City Hall near 15th and John F. Kennedy Boulevard shortly after 10 p.m.

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The ongoing trend of catalytic converter thefts appears to be victimizing a new type of vehicle in one Pennsylvania community, according to local police. Officers in Haverford Township say there were nearly a dozen catalytic converter thefts over the weekend, and many of them the vehicles were Volkswagens. "This is really the first big spike we’ve seen in quite some time, we’ve had a few sporadic here and there, but it’s not just us it’s regionally," Haverford Township Police Chief John Viola said.Investigators in Haverford believe the thieves are coming from outside the town.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a triple shooting in the West Philadelphia section of the city earlier this month. Police are asking for the public's help to identify two men accused of firing over a dozen shots outside a convenience store on the 5500 block of Market Street just after 7 p.m.Authorities say before the shooting, the two suspects, dressed in all black and armed with semi-automatic weapons, were dropped off on North Ithan Street by a driver in a silver sedan.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A New Jersey police officer was luckily unharmed after investigators say a distracted driver slammed into his cruiser during a traffic stop. The South Brunswick Police Department said the crash happened Thursday just before midnight on Route 1 South near Raymond Road.A 17-year patrolman was in the shoulder of the highway talking to the driver of a truck he had pulled over when police say he heard screeching tires and a loud crash.The officer found a 2015 Volkswagen had plowed into the back of his police SUV and spun along the driver's side, coming to a rest facing the wrong direction with the airbags deployed.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators later determined the driver, a 47-year-old from New Brunswick, veered into the shoulder of the highway.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Three leading local car dealers have decided to recall a large number of vehicles over faulty airbags and for upgrades.The Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic Nishantha Anurudhdha Weerasinghe told News 1st that discussions are underway with all other dealers to rectify the faulty airbag issue.Millions of vehicles ranging from a variety of makes and models across the world are being recalled due to faulty airbags made by a Japanese auto parts maker.The Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic Nishantha Anurudhdha Weerasinghe told News 1st that vehicles that fall under the recall category are currently in use in Sri Lanka.He said that a special meeting will take place on Tuesday (14) with local car dealers to address the issue.It has now been confirmed that vehicles with defective airbags that can increase the risk of injury, fail to protect occupants, or cause a driver to crash have been sold across the world, and these include Sedans and SUBs.Although vehicles belonging to the relevant make and models have been recalled overseas to rectify the issue, in Sri Lanka, those vehicles continue to operate in the streets.The Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic Nishantha Anurudhdha Weerasinghe said that local vehicle importers have decided to recall 47 vehicle models with faulty airbags to rectify the issue.These include the following:Honda: 33 Models from 9 vehicle types Mitsubishi: 8 Models from 3 vehicle types Toyota: 6 ModelsHowever, across the world, over 100 vehicle models have been recalled to rectify the airbag issue, and they include the following:Mazda: 7 vehicle categories Benz: 10 vehicle categories Mitsubishi: 6 vehicle categories Subaru: 5

EASTON, Mass. - Surveillance video shows the moment a driver plowed his Volkswagen Jetta into a Massachusetts store that sells merchandise in support of former President Donald Trump.According to the Easton, Massachusetts, Police Department, officers responded Thursday afternoon to the New England for Trump store, where a man had crashed. Video from inside shows the car fly through the glass storefront and land in the middle of the store, sending merchandise sailing.Video also shows an employee arranging merchandise inside the store when it happened.

cargo ship carrying vehicles from Germany to the U.S caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday and remains adrift near the Azores Islands.The Portuguese navy rescued all the 22 crew members from the ship, named the Felicity Ace, which was scheduled to arrive in the Port of Davisville, Rhode Island, on Feb. 23.No one was injured, but the Felicity Ace was carrying an unknown number of Volkswagen Group vehicles, including Porsches, in its hold, which has a capacity of 4,000 vehicles."Our immediate thoughts are of relief that the 22 crew of the merchant ship 'Felicity Ace' are safe and well," Porsche said in a statement to Fox News Autos."A number of our cars are among the cargo.
