(G)I-DLE’s Shuhua goes on temporary hiatus amid health issues

(G)I-DLE‘s Shuhua will be absent from upcoming activities with the K-pop group due to health issues.Today (February 8), her label CUBE Entertainment announced on fan community platform Weverse that the (G)I-DLE’s Shuhua had recently been treated at a hospital for “persistent dizziness stemming from a decline in her [physical] condition”.It has since been determined that the singer will need “sufficient rest and stability” in order to recover, and as such, will be absent from (G)I-DLE appearances until further notice.“While Shuhua expressed a strong determination to continue with her activities, we have decided to temporarily suspend all her schedules to allow her to fully focus on rest and recovery,” CUBE explained.The announcement of an official hiatus comes shortly after the Taiwanese singer was absent from a live performance of the band’s recent comeback title ‘Super Lady’ on February 3, along with a scheduled fancall event the day before, which CUBE Entertainment said was due to a “physical illness”.‘Super Lady’ is the lead single of (G)I-DLE’s sophomore studio album ‘[2]’. Its full release was preceded by the single ‘Wife’, which was banned days later by national broadcaster KBS for its “sexually explicit” lyrics.

aespa’s Winter undergoes “preventive” surgery for a collapsed lung

aespa singer Winter recently underwent what is being described as a “preventive” surgery for a collapsed lung.In a statement today (April 12), the Winter’s label SM Entertainment confirmed reports that the aespa singer recently underwent surgery for a pneumothorax, which is also commonly known as collapsed lung.Speaking to South Korean news outlet Newsen, the K-pop agency said that because the condition is “prone to recurrence”, the surgery was “carried out as a preventive measure in accordance with her doctor’s opinion, and the decision was made after plenty of discussion”, per Soompi.SM Entertainment added said that Winter is “currently recovering”, adding that the aespa singer’s recovery is their “top priority moving forward” when touching on how the surgery would affect the group’s scheduled activities.aespa are expected to drop new music in the second quarter of 2024, according to a preview of upcoming music release SM Entertainment released in February. It is currently unclear how Winter’s surgery will affect these plans.The K-pop group have also announced their upcoming 2024 ‘SYNK: Parallel Line’ world tour, featuring concerts in Asia, Australia and more.

Former T-ARA singer Areum addresses suicide attempt: “The hospital said it was a miracle I survived”

T-ARA singer Areum has addressed her recent suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalisation on Instagram.On March 27, South Korean media reported that Areum had been taken to a hospital after attempting to take her own life. The news came a day after Areum accused her ex-husband, businessman Kim Young-gul, of being physically and emotionally abusive towards her and her children.On March 29, Areum took to her Instagram to post a picture of herself on a hospital bed, accompanied with a caption addressing her attempt and her recovery, saying that “the hospital said it was a miracle I survived”.“I remembered my loved ones, children, family and friends at the brink of death,” she wrote, per Korea JoongAng Daily. “After realising I might never see them again, I desperately wanted to live, so I held on and regained consciousness.”In the same post, Areum also addressed several accusations a South Korean YouTuber had levied against her and her current partner, which included soliciting money from her Instagram followers for a prior hospital treatment, unrelated to the suicide attempt.“What this YouTuber has said is not true,” Areum wrote.
