Young seal rescued in Rehoboth Beach thanks to actions of beach goer

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - A beach goer may have helped save the life of a little seal in need earlier this week on a Delaware beach.The young male harp seal was found rolling on its back in the sand of the North Shores in Rehoboth Beach on Tuesday. Officials say this can often be a sign that the seal is infested with lice. On Monday, PennDOT gave its contractor approval to begin work on covering I-95 between Chestnut and Walnut Streets to help connect Old City and Penn’s Landing. The ‘Central Access Philadelphia’ – or CAP project – has been years in the making and is part of a huge project that will coast nearly $330 million. The project touts two main features, including a new park at Penn’s Landing and a new bridge at South Street. Both will also extend over Columbus Boulevard and onto the Delaware River Trail. The new park will span 11.5 acres between Chestnut and Walnut Streets.

Utah snowmobilers build fire, snow cave after becoming stranded in overnight winter storm

(Credit: Summit County Sheriff's Office) Two Utah snowmobilers are lucky to be alive after becoming stranded Wednesday in an overnight storm in Utah.According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, search and rescue teams responded to the Bear River Station area of Mirror Lake Highway in Summit County regarding two adult males who were stranded on their snowmobiles. The agency’s public information officer Felicia Sotelo told FOX Television Stations that the men rode into a bowl-like depression on their snowmobiles and were unable to get out. "[They] essentially were stranded," Sotelo shared, noting that their tracked vehicles were low on fuel."They didn’t plan on being out all day," she continued. "They built a snow cave, they built a fire." The individuals utilized a SPOT location device, making it possible for the men to communicate with emergency officials, which assisted the rescue team in locating them. Suspect accused of stabbing man at Bucks County Wawa sought by police, authorities say

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Officers with the Bensalem Township Police Department are searching for a man accused of stabbing someone at a Bucks County Wawa. According to police, an arrest warrant has been obtained for Stanley Wilson on attempted homicide and related charges. Vehicles pelted with rocks, debris thrown from train overpass onto Philadelphia highway

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are investigating after motorists reported being pelted with rocks and other debris while driving down a Philadelphia highway on Tuesday night. A driver who asked to remain anonymous told FOX 29 that he was driving on I-76 eastbound near the Passyunk and Oregon Avenue exit around 7 p.m. when his car was struck by a large rock. He described the sound of the rock shattering his windshield as an "explosion" that sent glass fragments scattered across the inside of his brand-new car. "When the car got his I thought I got shot, the car got shot, that's how much of an explosion it was," he said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe unnamed driver pulled his vehicle to the side of the road where several other cars had stopped after also being struck by thrown debris."There was a guy about 5-10 cars up from me that said a rock had gone through the windshield and struck a woman in the face that she needed emergency services," he said. Another driver who was in the shoulder of the highway claimed that her car was struck by a fire extinguisher, according to the anonymous driver. Officers from the Delaware River Port Authority said one person was throwing debris from the CSX Railroad overpass, but they ran away before police arrived. Dozens of cars were damaged when police say someone hurled rocks and other debris onto a busy Philadelphia highway.

Police: Motorcycle driver dies after losing control of bike on Pennsylvania highway exit ramp

BENSALEM, Pa. - Authorities say a motorcycle driver was killed Wednesday night in Bucks County when he lost control of his bike and slammed into a concrete barrier. Pennsylvania State Police reported Anthony Dworinitski, 35, died when he crashed his Suzuki motorcycle on the I-95 southbound exit ramp near Cornwells Hights Park and Ride just before 9 p.m. An investigation concluded that Dworinitski lost control of his motorcycle and struck a concrete barrier on the shoulder of the exit ramp, resulting in fatal injuries. Emergency medical responders from Bensalem pronounced Dworinitski, a Bristol resident, dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the deadly motorcycle crash.

PHILADELPHIA - Tuesday morning's heavy rain came in quickly, causing delays for commuters across the Delaware Valley, especially those stuck in floods along the Schuylkill Expressway. Delays along I-76 were so bad that many commuters are questioning why PennDOT wasn't prepared. 4 killed, 8 injured when van carrying workers overturns on New Jersey parkway

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. - A passenger van carrying several warehouse workers overturned on a major highway in northern New Jersey early Friday, killing four people and injuring eight others.The crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs occurred around 1:25 a.m., authorities said. The van ended up in the center median of the southbound lanes of the highway, leaving the driver and all the passengers trapped inside the vehicle.The four people killed were pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured people were being treated at hospitals.
