PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver on route taking a passenger through North Philadelphia was shot and severely injured on Wednesday night, authorities say. According to police, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. Officials say when officers arrived on scene, they saw the vehicle, a Honda CRV, that jumped the curb and struck a utility pole. A 34-year-old driver was slumped in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials said. I-95 collapse: Detours, road closures creating influx of traffic in nearby neighborhoods

PHILADELPHIA - Commuters in Philadelphia are adapting to new road closures and detours in the wake of the I-95 collapse that officials say will take months to repair. Some of the re-routed traffic, however, is being funneled onto tight streets in North Philadelphia that aren't equipped to handle the influx of traffic. A viewer photo given to FOX 29 News shows the aftermath of a tractor trailer coming down the tight confines of Westmoreland Street and tearing down a cable line. The traffic chaos has caused neighbors in Bridesburg to take matters into their own hands by placing cones and caution tape on the roadway to help direct traffic. "The people on the block here are trying to help people go the right way, because if they go all the way down towards Aramingo they may have to turn around and go towards traffic," Scott Simon said. "In order to keep them from going down that way, we have the cones which is forcing them to go the right way." Some of the road closures, according to neighbors, have caused drivers to become lost in unfamiliar parts of town which has raised safety concerns for residents with children. Bomb squad removes explosive device after suspects try to blow up ATM in Olney: police

PHILADELPHIA - An attempted robbery at a variety store in Philadelphia’s Olney section required the help of a bomb squad early Wednesday morning.An employee told police that three men entered the store on the 4700 block of North 5th Street with what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.It was actually an illegal improvised explosive device, which the suspects placed inside the money slot of an ATM inside the store, according to authorities.After attempting the light the fuse, which did not burn, police say the suspects fled the store and never returned. Wanted: Man opens fire on building with people inside in Strawberry Mansion, police say

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help to identify a man they say fired nearly 10 shots into an occupied building last month.The suspect was armed with a handgun when he opened fire on the 3300 block of Ridge Avenue in the early morning hours of May 31, according to authorities.Police say the building was occupied at the time, but have not said how many people were inside.

Officer injured in police-involved shooting was struck by 'friendly fire', police say

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators say a Philadelphia police officer suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound when he was struck by friendly fire during a struggle with an armed suspect who was shot and killed. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department responded to a property on the 2800 block of Ruth Street for reports of shots fired. Four officers entered the basement of the property and found Dimitri Klimov hiding in a crawl space.With officers flanking both sides of the crawl space, investigators say Klimov armed himself with a rock and refused commands to surrender.

PHILADELPHIA - A gun found inside a preparatory school has prompted a lockdown in Philadelphia's Frankford section Tuesday morning.The First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School on the 4300 block of Talcony Street is currently under lockdown.Police say a parent got a call from her daughter about a student with a gun inside the school.A gun was recovered in a student's backpack, then the school was placed on lockdown, according to authorities.Police have yet to release further details about the student or recovery of the gun.This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are still looking a man they say shot and killed a 21-year-old victim more than 10 months ago.In October 2022, a young man was sitting in a car on the 1700 block of Church Lane when police say the suspect fired several shots at him.The victim was struck, and died from his injuries.MORE HEADLINES:Surveillance video shows the suspect running from the scene after the fatal shooting.Police are now asking for the public's help to locate the suspect, offering a $20,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.
