Belleville’s Royal Canadian Legion Branch 99 is coping with COVID-19 hit
With even fewer veterans to keep up membership ranks, Royal Canadian Legions have had a hard time drawing people — a problem made worse by the coronavirus pandemic.In Belleville, Legion 99 Branch treasurer Doris Fraser said Friday the facility is open now and welcoming members again.“They’re coming in once they realize that we’ve reopened the doors. And again we have to social distance, we have to be prepared — they just can’t walk in here, we have to have a mask — we have to abide by the rules,” Fraser said.Fraser also heads up entertainment and special events and sits on the executive board.She says, like other branches, the Pinnacle Street facility has taken a COVID-19 hit.“Quite a bit.
