Door-to-door "surge" Covid testing is to be expanded in London after a new variant has been detected in a part of the city. Residents living in parts of south London are being offered a test following new cases of the South African strain.
The Department of Health and Social Care will work with Lambeth Council to test people living in three postcodes. People are being urged to get tested - even if they had no symptoms.
Further targeted areas in the capital will be offered additional testing to control and suppress the spread of the variant. The South African strain first emerged in Kent before Christmas and has recently been found in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Manchester.
