COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe on Tuesday (14) said that a LP Gas shipment of 3,500 MT has reached Sri Lanka.“The gas from this shipment will be delivered to premises that obtain stocks in bulk like hospitals, hotels, crematoriums, etc,. The next shipment will deliver LP Gas for a period of four months and it will take another 14 days for us to access that shipment,” said the Prime Minister.He said that Sri Lanka is in talks to secure a shipment within those 14 days.Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the authorities will ensure there is a continuous supply of fuel, but it will only meet 50% of the current demand.“Priority will be given for electricity generation, transportation, and other essential services,” he said.The existing stocks will last for another seven days, said the Prime Minister adding that a shipment of 40,000 MT of fuel will reach Sri Lanka by the 16th of June 2022.In addition, individual Petrol & Diesel shipments will reach Sri Lanka thereafter, completing the requirement of fuel for this month.The Prime Minister said two fuel shipments will be procured for the month of July.He said that a new Credit Line with India will support fuel purchasing for another 4 months from July.The Premier said that the fuel deliver will be available for 50% of the demand in the country.He said that he obtained Cabinet approval to print money in order to make the fuel and gas purchases for the country.The Prime Minister said that Sri Lanka does not have any rupee income, and by the end of the year the rupee crisis will solved with the introduction of taxes.“We are speaking with the IMF to solve the dollar crisis.

UPPER MERION, Pa. - Police are searching for a group of young men who they say tried to steal two purses in the parking lot of King of Prussia Mall and fled in a carjacked vehicle. The Upper Merion Police Department said at least two attempted thefts happened in the mall parking lot around 9 p.m. Monday. A woman reported that she was getting into her car when she was approached by a young man who tried to forcibly take her purse, according to police. The woman told officers that a red sedan with at least two others inside parked behind her during the attempted theft. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESWhile responding officers were talking to the victim, police were approached by another woman who said someone in a passing red sedan tried to steal her purse. The second victim told police the attempted theft happened in the parking lot near the Neiman Marcus store. Authorities used surveillance footage to discover that the vehicle, a red 2010 Toyota Corolla, was reported stolen earlier in the day during a carjacking in Philadelphia. The Upper Merion Police Department shared photos of the suspects and the vehicle.

The House passed a bill 396-27 to increase security for Supreme Court justices' immediate families on Tuesday, approving a measure that had already been passed by unanimous consent in the Senate.The bill comes after one man was arrested for allegedly plotting to kill Justice Brett Kavanaugh and protesters demonstrated outside the homes of conservative justices following the leak of a draft opinion in a high-profile abortion case.The bill provides for 24-hour protection for Supreme Court justices' families, similar to what is already provided for some members of the executive and legislative branches.All 27 nay votes were Democrats.The Senate bill was introduced three days after Politico published the leaked draft opinion, which suggested that the Supreme Court intends to overturn Roe v. PHILADELPHIA - Four California men were arrested in Pennsylvania with more than a million dollars in fentanyl pills and methamphetamine, according to authorities. The Bensalem Township Police Department, in cooperation Philadelphia DEA agents, made the drug bust Wednesday on the 3300 block of Street Road. Ramon Caro Ramon Caro, 19, Alex Zaragoza, 22, Anthony Gonzales, 26, and Arturo Avila, 37, were each charged with several crimes including possession with intent to deliver. Authorities say the men are from Riverside, California.

David Elmakayes, 26, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for blowing up an ATM in North Philadelphia during civil unrest in 2020.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for blowing up an ATM during the civil unrest in spring 2020. According to United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams, 26-year-old David Elmakayes was given the sentence and three years of supervised release for "using an explosive device to damage an ATM machine and for illegally possessing a firearm." Elmakayes was charged with malicious damage of property with an explosive device, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and related charges on June 18, 2020. Officials say on the night of June 3, 2020, he used an explosive device to damage an ATM on the 200 block of East Westmoreland Street in North Philadelphia. FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser reports.According to authorities, at the time of his arrest, Elmakayes also had three more explosive devices in his possession along with a .32 caliber pistol. MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"This defendant took advantage of a volatile situation on the streets of Philadelphia to commit a dangerous act that could have injured many people," Williams said. "Damaging property with an explosive device and illegally carrying a firearm are federal crimes which our Office will aggressively prosecute.

The suspect surrendered around 8:30 a.m. Beverly City School, which is across the street, was shut down as the standoff unfolded."Due to police activity currently taking place on Bentley Avenue, the Beverly City School District will be closed on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, to ensure everyone's safety," the school said in an alert on their website.No further details regarding the man in custody, or the cause of the barricade were provided by officials.

MENDOCINO, Calif. - Gas prices at one Northern California gas station are getting very close to $10 a gallon.A Chevron station in Mendocino was charging $9.63 this week for a gallon of regular gas.Aldo Vazquez, who works at AAA Northern California, says it costs more to bring gas to this rural area, so that company has to charge more to stay in business."When you factor in transportation costs, the proximity to pipelines, those can also add up to the price of gasoline," Vaszquez said on Monday. "That’s why we always recommend doing your research because if you can find a different route, you may end up in an area with cheaper prices."It's still expensive to buy gas elsewhere in the country, but way less expensive than California, which has the highest average in the nation hovering around $6.40 a gallon, according to AAA.

PHILADELPHIA - A man has been hospitalized after he was shot multiple times in Philadelphia's Powelton neighborhood, police say. According to authorities, officers responded to the 600 block of N Preston Street around 1:11 a.m. Tuesday. Police say an unidentified man, believed to be about 25,  was shot nine times throughout his body. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in critical condition, per officials. Police say no arrest has been made and a weapon was not recovered. Authorities are also investigating a stabbing that took place around 2:40 a.m.

Maharashtra on Tuesday reported as many as 2956 new COVID19 cases, which is about 80% higher than yesterday's tally. The state on Monday reported 1,885 fresh infections. The new cases today pushed the active tally to 18,267.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested four men for abducting a woman from Puwarasankulam and demanding ransom for her release.Police said an investigation was launched after a complaint was received that a woman was forcefully taken away on Monday (13) morning and was held against her will at a house.The abductors had contacted the woman’s daughter via telephone and demanded Rs. 500,000/- for her mother’s release.They had claimed that they would shoot her if the ransom was NOT paid.Sri Lanka Police said that they used the complainant to lead them to the abductors under the guise of paying the ransom money and made the arrests.The abducted woman was also rescued by Sri Lanka Police personnel.The suspects were identified as those between the ages of 26 & 49 and from Vavunia, Killinochchi, and Mullaithivu.The suspects will be produced in court on Tuesday (14).
