There will not be a total lifting of restrictions regarding prison visits, with one physical visit permitted a fortnight, according to the Deputy Director of the Irish Penal Reform Trust.
Molly Joyce said restrictions will be in place in some areas of prisons. In prison visits are due to resume this week, but the prison service says some restrictions will remain where there are ongoing Covid outbreaks.
There are currently outbreaks in Mountjoy, the Midlands prison, Cork, Limerick and Cloverhill. Ms Joyce said only one child per visit is currently allowed, which, she says, is causing real hardship as families have to choose which child to bring.
