There are six areas in England where coronavirus infections have soared at double the national average rate. Figures released today show that Corby , Leicester , North West Leicestershire , Fenland , Peterborough and South Holland have all seen worrying week-on-week rises.
England's average infection rate is currently 97.1 per 100,000 people. But in the last seven days to February 26 Corby recorded an infection rate of 222.9 - more than double the national average - making it the country's top Covid hotspot.
The town in Northamptonshire recorded 166 new cases but this is down from 346.2 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 19.
