‘Significant’ damage in Barrie’s south end after tornado moved through region, 8 injured

Environment Canada confirms a tornado moved through the region Thursday afternoon.Photos and videos posted on social media appeared to show wide-ranging damages to homes in the community.“There was a significant weather event that came through.

It is indicative of tornadic activity,” Jennett Mays, a Barrie Police Service spokesperson, told Global News.“There is a significant amount of damage in the south end of the city.”Mays said the damage at properties ranges from shingles blown off rooftops to fuller structural damage and vehicles being blown over.
