Scottish Government announces nine deaths and 16,857 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that nine people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The latest figures for Scotland showed that 16,857 new cases had also been identified overnight, bringing the total number to 902,889 since the pandemic began.

The death toll now stands at 9,845. There are currently 810 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 34 being treated in intensive care.

4,381,226 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 4,012,490 their second, and 2,944,977 have received a third dose or booster.The new figures come as the Health Secretary announced an “exceptionally high” number of booster vaccines need to be given over Thursday and Friday for Scotland to meet its target of
