Scottish Government announces 18 deaths and 5,951 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government has confirmed that 18 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. It brings the death toll since last March – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 9,764.The latest figures for Scotland show 5,951 new cases had also been identified overnight.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started stands at 783,828. There are currently 531 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 34 being treated in intensive care.To date 4,366,439 people have received their first vaccination with 3,983,975 having a second jab and 2,313,843 having a third dose or booster.The figures come as Nicola Sturgeon asked Scots to stay at home in bid to halt the spread
