The Scottish Government has confirmed 15 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, It brings the death toll – of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days – to 10,462.
The latest figures for Scotland showed 7,640 new cases had also been identified overnight. There are currently 934 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 21 being treated in intensive care.
So far, 4,423,943 people have received their first vaccination with 4,138,634 having a second jab and 3,328,947 receiving a third dose or booster.The figures come as Boris Johnson announced a shock plan to end all covid self-isolation laws in England in just two weeks time.At the beginning of Prime Minister’s Questions the Tory leader brought cheers from his backbenchers with plans to end self-isolation for people who test positive for coronavirus “a full month earlier” than planned.
As he faced renewed criticism over his Jimmy Savile slur against Labour’s Keir Starmer, Johnson sought a further distraction from partygate controversies and his fitness to govern with the announcement.
