COLOMBO (News 1st) – According to the National Road Safety Council, 40% of the current road accidents are related to motorcycles.Its Chairman, Anton de Mel stated that a research conducted in collaboration with the Moratuwa University regarding measures which can be taken to reduce motorcycle accidents, resulted in this.
He further stated that much of the youth is used to using high-fuel consumption motorcycles, which has overtaken the generation as a trend.De Mel added that the steps will be taken to introduce legislation to reduce such accidents in the future, in line with the Motor Traffic Department..
