As Russian President Vladimir Putin unleashes its attack on Ukraine, people across the country are scrambling to leave or face getting caught in the crossfire.

NATO secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to order a “special military action” in Ukraine, saying “we are at a grave moment for the security of Europe.” He called the decision “barbaric” and accused Russia of “trying to turn back the clock by force.”

KYIV, Ukraine - Photos and videos showed long lines of traffic heading out of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on Thursday after Russia launched a wide-ranging attack on the country, a move condemned by leaders around the world. Sirens rang out in Kyiv and people massed in train stations and took to roads, as Ukraine's government said it was seeing a long-anticipated invasion from the east, north and south and reported more than 40 soldiers had been killed and dozens wounded.Video showed residents sitting in gridlock traffic along the main Kyiv-Odessa highway as people tried to leave the capital. Other footage showed long lines of vehicles waiting to fill up at a gas station in northwest Ukraine."A full-scale war in Europe has begun," Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said.

BRUSSELS - World leaders expressed a raw outrage shrouded by an impotence to immediately come to the aid of Ukraine to avoid a major war in Europe, condemning Russia’s attack on its neighbor as the European Union and others promised unprecedented sanctions to hit the Kremlin.European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called it a "barbaric attack" on an independent nation that also targeted "the stability in Europe and the whole of the international peace order." The EU will hold an emergency summit in Brussels, where NATO is also meeting after Poland and the Baltic nations bordering Russia and Ukraine called for an urgent session.But no one promised to move in militarily and defend Ukraine as it could touch off a major European war. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned anyone listening that any interference would "lead to consequences you have never seen in history."So instead, most of the world — but not China — condemned and threatened to hit the Russian elites with, in the words of EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, "the strongest package, the harshest package of sanctions we have ever implemented.""A major nuclear power has attacked a neighbor country and is threatening reprisals of any other states that may come to the rescue," Borrell said.

BRENTWOOD, Calif. - A woman had her scalp torn off by a Brentwood police dog after she shoplifted some perfume and makeup from a nearby mall, video obtained by KTVU shows, raising serious questions about when and why K-9 units are deployed. Talmika Bates, then 24, is seen in the video provided by her lawyers screaming and wailing in pain. The skin on top of her head was ripped off exposing blood and bone. "Help me! The dog is biting me," she screams.

LAKEWOOD, Calif. - A mother in Lakewood is sharing her story after she and her child were followed home Sunday night, and the entire thing was caught on doorbell video. "Everyone please stay vigilant and lock your doors," homeowner Ali Porath posted on Facebook alongside a video of the incident. According to Porath, she was in the process of unloading the car after she and her child got home. "Luckily, we were at the tail end of unloading everything and had locked the door upon entering," she said. In the video, you can see Porath carrying her child into the house. Seconds later, a man appears in the driveway and approaches the door.

SALT LAKE CITY - Two Black Hawk helicopters were involved in a training accident on Tuesday near a Utah ski resort, officials said — and multiple witnesses to the incident captured the scene on video. None of those aboard the helicopter nor the dozens of skiers nearby were injured, officials said.The accident, involving two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, was reported around 9:30 a.m. MST near Mineral Basin at Snowbird ski resort, located just outside of Salt Lake City.

The investigation into an alleged attack on a natural gas pipeline worksite in northern B.C. continues, say the Mounties, who released three video clips on Tuesday of the incident.

Emergencies Act helped end the Ottawa blockades, Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino said on Sunday ahead of a House of Commons vote on the controversial measure.Conservatives, however, are highly critical of the government move and some are pushing the Liberals to revoke the act now that blockades that effectively shut the city down for more than three weeks appear to be over.There is one day left of debate on the government’s decision to invoke the act.MPs will vote on the motion Monday at 8 p.m. ET, and it is expected to pass with the joint support of the Liberals and NDP.

Chris Barber, one of the principal organizers of the so-called “freedom convoy,” is being released on bail on the conditions that he imminently leaves Ottawa and no longer supports the downtown blockades.Barber was released from police custody after a court hearing in Ottawa late Friday afternoon.His bail bond is set at $100,000, with his wife set as a surety. He is instructed to leave the city within 24 hours and the province of Ontario within five days.He must also, under the order of Justice Julie Bourgeois, no longer directly or indirectly support the ongoing blockades in downtown Ottawa, which police launched operations to clear earlier in the day on Friday.

HARRISBURG - A Pennsylvania man is accused of torturing an employee in Iraq after the worker raised concerns about a project to produce weapons parts in that country, federal prosecutors said.Under a superseding indictment returned Tuesday, federal authorities accused Ross Roggio, 53, of Stroudsburg, with suffocating the victim with a belt, threatening to cut off one of the victim's fingers and directing Kurdish soldiers to inflict pain and suffering on the victim.Roggio and the Roggio Consulting Company were previously charged in 2018 with illegally exporting firearms parts and tools from the United States to Iraq as part of a weapons project in Kurdistan.

NEW YORK - The battle to unionize Amazon workers is intensifying after labor officials officially set a date for a union election in a Staten Island facility next month.The election, which will be held in-person, is slated for between March 25-30, confirmed the National Labor Relations Board Thursday. The ballot count will be conducted on March 31. An independent and fledgling group called the Amazon Labor Union is spearheading the push.Meanwhile, Amazon workers in a Bessemer, Alabama facility are voting by mail for the second time on whether to form a union.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released surveillance video of a carjacking that occurred earlier this week as they search for a suspect.The incident occurred Wednesday morning, around 2 a.m. at the Amera gas station on the 4700 block of West Girard Avenue. Police say the victim pulled into the gas station in a white Toyota RAV4.

(FOX 2) - Former students are claiming sexual harassment and abuse from an ex-University of Michigan faculty member known as the 'Rock & Roll professor.'Isabelle Brouman is one of seven former students making the claims about Bruce Conforth - who had been the first curator of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland."They still need to reconcile what happened in the past," said Brouman who attended Conforth's class in 2013.

TRENTON, NJ. - Amazon's Black Employee Network donated 10,000 to a cemetery in Mercer County, New Jersey. On Wednesday, Amazon workers presented the checks to the Locust Hill African Cemetery and Museum Project in Trenton. According to the official website, the project is focused on restoring the cemetery and creating a museum to honor the Black people laid to rest there. Locust Hill is Trenton's largest Black burial ground.

SYDNEY - A swimmer off of a Sydney beach in Australia died on Wednesday after suffering "catastrophic injuries" from a great white shark — the first fatal shark attack in the area since 1963.The attack was reported at about 4:35 p.m. local time near Buchan Point, Malabar, where Little Bay Beach is located, according to a statement from New South Wales police.

A local mother is looking for a group of heroes who saved her daughter from being mauled by a dog at Madison Park in Pennsauken.  PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - A group of strangers quickly became heroes to Erika Rivera and her nine-year-old daughter Toni after saving the child from being mauled by a dog.  Rivera spoke to FOX 29’s Jennifer Joyce via Zoom as she sat by her daughter’s bedside at Cooper University Hospital. She said her daughter was attacked by a neighborhood dog on Monday in Pennsauken’s Madison Park.The Good Samaritans saw the attack and rushed in to help. "They’re the ones who called the police," Rivera said.

An American Airlines employee stabbed a co-worker at Boston Logan International Airport following a dispute between the pair, authorities said Tuesday. Kenrick Smith, 34, of Leominster, was arraigned hours later at the East Boston District Court, Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a statement. The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m.
