The Shadow Foreign Secretary has accused the Conservative Government of "systematically stripping" its support for Britain's children over the last decade.
Labour's Lisa Nandy called footballer Marcus Rashford "brave" in his campaign urging ministers to reverse their decision not to award free school meals vouchers in England.
But she said it shouldn't take a high profile sportsman to "shame the Government into action", adding "children have been last up to now and have been invisible".
Speaking on Thursday's Question Time, the MP for Wigan said it's unacceptable that 48 hours ago those in power were still debating whether it was "going to allow some children to go starving hungry over the school holidays".
