The CEO of the Health Service Executive Paul Reid has said today is a "very proud day for Ireland". Mr Reid was speaking at the HSE's weekly update on Covid-19 after the six millionth vaccine dose was administered this morning. "It is a very proud day for Ireland with Kellie Harrington reaching the Olympic final and that we have reached the six millionth vaccine." He described is as a "great milestone" to have six million vaccines administered.
Paul Reid said 3.3 million people had received their first dose or a single dose of a vaccine and 2.8 million had received their second dose.
He said uptake of the vaccine continues to remain strong. The breakdown for the number of people vaccinated is: 99% of 80+ year olds, 99% of 70-79 year olds,
