A protest rally is due to take place in Cork this afternoon calling for an end to lockdown restrictions. The organisers, The People's Convention, have said it will be a peaceful event, and have described the risk of trouble there as minute.

Gardaí have said an extensive policing plan has been put in place to police the event. Following last weekend's violence at an anti-lockdown protest in Dublin, attention has focussed on the Cork rally, scheduled for 2pm.

Organisers have said that the event will be peaceful, and that those attending will be at greater risk of getting knocked down crossing the road than they will of witnessing trouble at the rally.
