COLOMBO (News 1st); JVP Leader & Opposition Lawmaker Anura Kumara Dissanayake told Parliament on Thursday (7) that the opposition is prepared to consider any government proposal to address the present crisis, under one single condition, that is for the President to resign.“There are two main points centered around the struggle of the common people in Sri Lanka.

One is that the present President must step down. We must accept it. This is not a call from the opposition or an MP. This is the call of the people.

That is why they say Gota Go Home,” said Dissanayake. He said the people are not prepared to accept any proposal within or out of the constitution, with the present President in power.“We can only consider a proposal from you (government), and submit proposals to you, under the condition that the President resigns,” he told the Parliament.Thereafter, we can prepare a mechanism, be it a caretaker government, interim government, etc, that can be considered, said the JVP Leader.“You might recall in 2001, the parliament lost majority and we proposed to fulfill the suggestions and then we will support,” he added. He went on to note that none of the proposals put forward by the President, will address the crises in the country.Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando reiterated that the government will not resign, and the government is prepared to face any situation, and will NEVER go beyond the provisions of the constitution.

Amir Locke shooting: More bodycam video released by Minnesota BCA
MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released all investigative materials, including additional body-worn camera video, related to the Minneapolis police deadly shooting of Amir Locke during a no-knock raid in February. The release of the materials comes after Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Wednesday morning there is "insufficient admissible evidence" to support criminal charges against Mark Hanneman, the Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed the armed 22-year-old Black man while conducting an early morning no-knock SWAT team raid.New body camera videoPreviously, the BCA had only released one officer's body camera footage. The reports released with Wednesday’s charging decision confirm that the previously released video was from the perspective of MPD Officer Aaron Pearson, who opened the apartment door with a key provided by apartment management for the SWAT team to enter. The new video shows the moments before and after shots were fired from 11 other body cameras, including Officer Mark Hanneman. An interview transcript included in the case file shows the moments as Marlon Speed, who was sleeping in the next room over when Locke was shot, spoke with the BCA after the shooting. The transcript shows Marlon Speed learned his cousin died while speaking with investigators for a brief period.

‘GotaGoGama’ protest village pops up as protestors occupy Galle Face
COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan protestors who occupied the Galle Face stretch since Saturday (9) against the President and his government have also now set up a camp named ‘Gota-Go-Gama’ (GotaGoGama). The camp was set up on Saturday (9) night with just a few tents, and the number shot up to over two dozen on Sunday (10) night.Gota-Go-Gama is like a small model village, it has all the basic requirements including free food, water, toilets, and even a make ship medical camp for health emergencies.Debt in billions due to years of accumulated borrowings, record inflation, lack of foreign currency, crucial sectors witnessing a sharp fall in demand thanks to the pandemic, and the alleged government mismanagement are among the reasons that have dragged Sri Lanka into not just an unprecedented economic crisis but also a massive political turmoil.Meanwhile, the ruling coalition led by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna lost the majority in the Parliament. The opposition rejected an offer by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who had called to form a ‘unity government’ following the resignation of 26 ministers of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Cabinet amid violent protests.People are on the roads protesting against their government amid a severe shortage of fuel, essentials, and power outages.Gota-Go-Gama was set up by the protestors to strengthen their efforts to demand President Rajapaksa resign.
