The HSE has said that there could potentially be around 2,000 cases of missed cancer as a result of the impact of Covid-19 on other clinical services.
National Director, of National Cancer Control Programme, Professor Risteárd Ó Laoide said the impact of Covid-19 on services has been significant, but is not unique to Ireland.
He said counterparts in Northern Ireland and the UK are reporting a similar experience. At a HSE briefing, Prof Ó Laoide said data shows that there have been "371 cases of lost cancers" that haven't been diagnosed this year compared to last year in the subset of Breast, Lung and Prostate cancer.
