Firefighters rescue man trapped on roof of Bucks County condo fire

NEWTOWN, Pa. - Firefighter in Bucks County rescued a man from the roof of a burning condo fire that erupted Fourth of July morning.Emergency crews responded to Nathan Court in the Newtown Gate Townhomes community for reports of a two-story fire at an end unit. Firefighters from the Newtown Fire Department said when they arrived they found a man standing on the roof of the burning home. Deputy Chief Liz Ellis told reporters the firefighters quickly stretched a ladder to the roof and helped guide the man down. He was brought to a local hospital with burns, FOX 29's Joann Pileggi reports. A neighbor who witnessed the Independence Day blaze first thought the sirens were from a local parade, then smelled the smoke. "I was actually hearing sirens going on like nearby I thought they were passing by the highway maybe Fourth of July related but then my Ring door alarm said there’s a fire, and it gave my street name, and then I smelled smoke and ran outside," Devrim Eren said.The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

MUMBAI : The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) on Monday agreed to look into the Covid-19 policy claims that were rejected by insurance companies. This comes after a public interest litigation was filed by a Manav Seva Dham (petitioner), a social services’ trust against various insurance companies before the Bombay High Court. According to the petition, it has been alleged that various insurance providers engaged in a number of offences, misusing policyholder funds, rerouting funds through additional businesses, and paying exorbitant overriding commissions to banks and their agents. “The insurance companies are unjustly denying their Covid-19-related claims, it claimed, even in the midst of the ongoing pandemic Covid-19, in which the country’s residents have not only lost their jobs but also depleted their money", it said. Additionally, the petitioner submitted that Insurance companies have caused wrongful losses to the policyholders. Essentially the petitioner asked the court to ass an order to ensure that the insurance claims submitted by the policyholders due to Covid-19 pandemic were not arbitrarily rejected. Italian Alps glacier collapse: Search efforts resume for 17 still unaccounted for

ROME - Some 17 people remain unaccounted for a day after a huge chunk of an Alpine glacier broke off and slammed into hikers in northern Italy, officials said Monday.At least six people died and 9 were injured by the avalanche of ice, snow and large rocks thundering down the slope of the mountain topped by the Marmolada glacier Sunday afternoon.Trento Prosecutor Sandro Raimondi said that 17 hikers were believed to be missing, the Italian news agency LaPresse reported.Veneto regional Gov. Luca Zaia said some of those hiking in the area on Sunday were roped together as they climbed.Nationalities of the known dead haven't been disclosed, and conditions were too dangerous Monday morning for rescue crews with dogs to resume the search for those missing or to bring down the bodies.The bodies will be brought to an ice skating rink in the resort town of Canazei in the Dolomite mountain range for identification.Raimondi was quoted as saying two of the nine injured are Germans.

NEW YORK - Two Long Island beaches in Suffolk County were expected to reopen Monday after a lifeguard was bitten by a shark.Smith Point and Cupsogue Beach suspended swimming Sunday after the lifeguard was bitten during a training exercise."While shark attacks off Long Island Shores are extremely rare, officials will provide an update on the situation and outline additional measures residents can take to remain safe in the water," County Executive Steve Bellone's office said in a statement. The lifeguard, identified as Zach Gallo, had been playing the role of a victim during a training exercise when the shark bit him in the chest and hand, Bellone told an afternoon news conference.The attack happened about 10:15 a.m. at Smith Point Beach in Shirley.

Woman found shot to death on living room floor in Frankford, police say

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are working to learn more after a woman was found shot to death in Frankford. Police say the incident happened on Sunday night when officers received reports of a shooting inside an apartment building on the 1300 block of Arrott Street. Officers had difficulty getting into the apartment, according to authorities, but once inside they found a woman, 37, shot inside. Authorities say the woman was shot in the forearm as she was in a defensive position trying to protect herself and once in the chest, which was the fatal shot. She was pronounced dead inside the apartment, according to police.
