KENSINGTON - Authorities say a 34-year-old woman is recovering after she was shot while sitting inside a car with her two children early Friday morning in Kensington.According to police, the shooting happened on 2000 block of Monmouth Street just before midnight.

Investigators believe the vehicle was caught in the crossfire when two groups fired more than 20 shots. Police say the woman was struck once in the chest and the vehicle was hit at least six times through the driver's side door.Both children, an 8-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl, were unharmed.The woman managed to drive herself to Episcopal Hospital where she was placed in stable condition.

North Carolina man accused of shooting 5-year-old boy in the head: report

WILSON, N.C. - A North Carolina man has been charged with walking up to a 5-year-old boy playing outside and shooting him in the head, according to a report.Darius Sessoms, 25, was taken into custody Monday charged with first degree murder in the death of the boy, Cannon Hinnant, in Wilson, N.C, WRAL-TV reported.Sessoms and the boy's father were next-door neighbors. Cannon was at his father's house on his bike Sunday afternoon when he was shot in front of his two sisters, 7 and 8, WRAL-TV reported.Doris Labrant told the station in an exclusive interview that she was looking out her window when she saw Sessoms run up to Cannon, put a gun to the boy’s head and pull the trigger.
