PHOENIX - The parents of a 1-year-old boy have been arrested in Phoenix after their child reportedly overdosed after ingesting fentanyl, court documents say.Police booked 37-year-old Marvin Gray and 23-year-old Anna Chavez into jail on child abuse charges.According to court paperwork, first responders were called because the little boy was not breathing and unresponsive.He reportedly regained consciousness after firefighters gave him two doses of Narcan, and he was rushed to the hospital where he was given a third dose of Narcan.A urine test at the hospital showed that the boy had ingested fentanyl, court documents said.Police say they searched the family's apartment and found eight pills marked "M30" and $10,000 in cash. According to court records, Chavez denied knowing how her child was exposed to fentanyl."You know, a small pinch of a powder, that would be enough for a child," said Dr. Frank Lovecchio.

ATLANTA - It's been more than two years since 34-year-old Elana Cooper first contracted COVID-19 at her grandfather's funeral in March 2020.She says she caught the virus again in January. A PhD student in biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech, Cooper says she is really struggling with brain fog, one reason she came to AbsoluteCare in Buckhead, one of five long COVID clinics in Georgia.Cooper is concerned her difficulty focusing and memory lapses may make it difficult to continue in her program."It kicks in at any point," Cooper says.  "So, when you're in the middle of a conversation, and you have to, like, think for a word and pause, it's a little embarrassing. MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota is asking people to not fill bird feeders or birdbaths to help stop the spread of bird flu this spring. In a post on Facebook, The Raptor Center’s Executive Director and Veterinary Epidemiologist, Dr. Victoria Hall urged the public to do everything they can to help prevent the gathering of songbirds. Hall says the country is facing an unprecedented outbreak of avian influenza (HPAI) in wild birds. While most research about bird flu’s effects centers around waterfowl, shorebirds and seabirds, since they are the birds that most often survive the illness, the Raptor Center is concerned about the virus’ effect on raptors as they often die from the virus."During these unprecedented times, we recommend doing anything that we can to try and help our wild bird populations.

West Chester University HARRISBURG, Pa. - Students at Pennsylvania's state-owned universities won't see tuition increase next year under a unanimous vote Thursday by the system's board.The State System of Higher Education's Board of Governors passed what will be the fourth year of flat tuition, as the struggling system hopes the Legislature will approve hundreds of millions in additional funding in the 2022-23 state budget."The state’s decision about our budget this year is existential for the state system," Chancellor Daniel Greenstein said this week, ahead of the expected vote. "It will determine the future of higher education in the state."Greenstein has been overseeing reforms to the sprawling system that currently enrolls nearly 90,000 students.The board six months ago sought $550 million in state funding next year, an increase of about 15%, along with $201 million in student aid and about $75 million in federal funds to help pay for system changes."I felt it’s not really the right time to seek a tuition increase," Greenstein said.The board could still increase tuition ahead of the coming school year if the state budget subsidy is not sufficient.AdvertisementTuition is currently about $7,700 for in-state undergraduates.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating six separate shootings, in the span of one hour, in which one person was killed and nine others were injured Thursday afternoon.According to officials, the first shooting happened in Kensington, near F and Lippincott Street Thursday afternoon, around 1:45. A woman is at Temple in stable condition.Within 20 minutes, another shooting happened in Belmont, where three people were shot on the 4000 block of Wallace Street. A 24-year-old man is in stable condition, while a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old male are both in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.Around 2:10 Thursday afternoon, a shooting was reported in South Philadelphia, on the 400 block of Manton Street.

Sacramento Fire Department made a startling discovery after responding to an abandoned homeless debris fire underneath a bridge on April 12 – a tiny puppy. The poor critter even had some melted plastic on his head and back just before he was taken to safety, according to video shared by the fire department. After a bath and food, the puppy started to perk up and show his personality at the fire station. TRENTON - New Jersey residents over 21-years-old will be allowed to purchase recreational marijuana in the Garden State next week, according to Governor Phil Murphy. Call it a coincidence, but the newly-reelected governor said New Jerseyans can purchase pot without a medical marijuana card starting on 4/21."This is a historic step in our work to create a new cannabis industry," Murphy said.The news comes about a year after the state's regulatory commission started operating, and a year and a half after voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot question to permit recreational marijuana for people 21 and older.New Jersey is one of 18 states, along with the District of Columbia, that have legalized recreational marijuana. Ontario is “well into” the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the province’s Science Advisory Table says.The science table released new projections on Thursday, saying the sixth wave is being driven by the “new, more transmissible BA.2 variant, waning immunity, and lifting of public health measures.”The table said there is “significant uncertainty around the impact of case growth on our health system and deaths,” but added that wastewater surveillance suggests that community transmission of the virus “may have peaked.”The advisory table said the province’s wastewater signal has “increased substantially” but that growth has slowed down, adding that it “may have crested.”“It is uncertain yet, whether the current plateau will remain or be followed by an increase after the holidays, or a decrease,” the document reads.

PHILADELPHIA - Minutes after an alleged robbery turned deadly in Olney, officers were called to another fatal shooting in the area. According to police, 35th District officers responded around 1:30 a.m. Officers were handling the robbery case at the intersection of N 5th Street and W Olney Avenue when they heard gunshots coming from the intersection of N 5th Street and W Champlost Avenue, police say. According to authorities, additional units responded to the 6000 block of N 5th Street and found a shooting victim inside of a parked car. Police say a man was slumped in the driver's seat of an Infiniti with multiple bullet holes in the driver's side window. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was unresponsive and police say he was shot once in the face and several times in the torso. Authorities say medics transported him to Einstein Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says the man was shot while sitting in the driver's seat because the car was hit by gunfire more than 10 times. Police are investigating a shooting in Olney that left one man dead.  A total of 28 spent shell casings were found just outside of the vehicle, Small says. Investigators say the bullets were fired from two separate caliber semi-automatic guns. Small says when the victim was taken to the hospital, a gun was found on his waistband. "It appears that although he had a gun, it appears that he never had a chance to use that weapon because it was still in his waistband when he arrived at the hospital," Small says. According to police, several cameras were active in the area during the time of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing and active. ___MORE LOCAL HEADLINES___DOWNLOAD: FOX 29 NEWS

PHILADELPHIA - A suspected robber was shot and killed early Tuesday morning after a man took his gun and shot him with it, police say. According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, around 1 a.m., 35th district officers responded to reports of two shooting victims in the smoke shop on the 5300 block of 5th Street. As officers were responding to that call, they received another call for a shooting victim inside of a car on W Olney Avenue, police say. Authorities say when officers responded to the smoke shop, no victims were inside, but it was clear there was a shooting scene due to spent shell casings and blood. Officers found an unresponsive shooting victim in the passenger seat of a Toyota with gunshot wounds to the groin and thigh and he was pronounced dead around 1:15 a.m., Small says. Police say the Toyota the man was in was stolen last week from the 24th District. Investigators say they learned there was a robbery in the smoke shop, with the deceased shooting victim matching the description of the robber. "We believe while that robbery was taking place someone fired shots striking the perpetrator who was the male inside the Toyota who was pronounced dead," Small says. "That's our preliminary information." Philadelphia police are investigating after a shooting at a smoke shop in Olney.  Police also say another shooting victim, a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the shoulder, showed up at the hospital. According to authorities, he was also shot inside the smoke shop on 5th Street. "At this point, we believe there was a robbery inside the smoke shop.

PHILADELPHIA - A rideshare driver was shot in Fairmount on Wednesday morning before driving to police headquarters to escape the gunfire, police say.According to authorities, the incident happened just after 3 a.m. in the area of North 24th and Poplar Streets.Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says as officers were responding, a 2013 GMC SUV showed up at the new police headquarters at North 15th and Callowhill Streets.Small says the 42-year-old driver had a graze wound on his back and officers took him to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. He was allegedly waiting for a passenger when a white Chevy Impala with dark rims and tinted windows began following him and firing shots. Police say the driver's car was hit 12 times by gunfire, with three bullet holes in the front windshield and nine on the passenger side.The motive is unknown at this time, according to police.Authorities believe the suspects in the white Chevy Impala may be connected to an incident at a Sunoco convenience store two blocks away.The convenience store clerk allegedly told police he got into an altercation with men who he believed were going to steal.
