Police investigate a drive-by shooting in East Germantown that critically injures a 31-year-old man and was witnessed by plainclothes officers nearby. EAST GERMANTOWN - Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting which critically injured an adult male and involved two 14th District officers in plainclothes conducting unrelated police business, in East Germantown.Officials said he two officers were on patrol on the 6100 block of Baynton Street, just about 6:40 Sunday evening, when they saw three men in silver or gray SUV shoot a 31-year-old man multiple times, unloading their weapons at least 27 times.The man was rushed to a nearby hospital in extremely critical condition.Police investigate a drive-by shooting in East Germantown that critically injures a 31-year-old man and was witnessed by plainclothes officers nearby.

The two officers fired their weapons at the shooters in the vehicle. WASHINGTON (AP) - President Joe Biden on Wednesday highlighted new figures showing the government's red ink will grow less than expected this year and the national debt will shrink this quarter as he tried to counter criticism of his economic leadership amid growing dismay over inflation going into midterm elections that will decide control of Congress.Biden, embracing deficit reduction as a way to fight inflation, stressed that the dip in the national debt would be the first in six years, an achievement that eluded former President Donald Trump despite his promises to improve the federal balance sheet."The bottom line is the deficit went up every year under my predecessor before the pandemic and during the pandemic. It has gone down both years since I’ve been here," Biden said.

PHILADELPHIA - A 14-year-old is in the hospital after being shot in West Oak Lane early Wednesday morning. According to police, the incident happened at a private residence 1900 block of Georgian Road just before 3:30 a.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small says police and paramedics arrived at the residence they received no response at the door and the doors were locked. Police found an open window on the first floor and entered the residence, Small says. According to authorities, blood was found. "There was blood throughout the house on all three floors," Small says.  A relative, believed to be the teen's uncle, living in the home told police there were juveniles, including the 14-year-old, in the home, but they did not know where they were. Police say they then learned a 14-year-old shooting victim had been driven to Elkins Park Hospital by his mother. The teen was shot once in his leg and is in stable condition, Small says. According to law enforcement, the teen told police he was walking home and made eye contact with a man who then fired one shot, hitting him in the leg.
