PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive outside of a library in Philadelphia’s Logan neighborhood early Friday morning. Investigators say a man who was walking his dog near Old York Road and West Duncannon Avenue flagged down officers on patrol after he made the gruesome discovery. The man appeared to have been shot in the chest, and three spent shell casings were found just a few feet away from where he was. MORE HEADLINES: Police say his death is being investigated as a homicide and that they received no reports of gunshots or a shooting in that area.

PHILADELPHIA - A 71-year-old man is in stable condition after police say he fought back against two suspects during a robbery attempt.The incident happened late Thursday night on the 2400 block of North 10th Street in North Philadelphia. The victim told police was walking home from a takeout restaurant when two suspects emerged from an alley and attempted to rob him.According to police, the victim pulled out a revolver and exchanged gunfire with the suspects. PHILADELPHIA - No one was hurt when authorities say someone inside a vehicle fired at police during a traffic stop Thursday in West Philadelphia.Investigators say a patrol car with two officers inside pulled over a Chevy Tahoe near the intersection of 54th and Summer streets just before 8 p.m. Deputy Commissioner Krista Dahl-Campbell told reporters someone inside the vehicle fired at least one shot at an officer who returned fire. No one was hit during the brief exchange of gunfire, according to police. Three people inside the vehicle were taken into custody and a weapon was recovered. Police say there may have been a fourth occupant of the suspect's vehicle who fled.

WASHINGTON - With the recent warm weather, some people in the District are claiming more illegal ATVs and dirt bikes have been popping up in certain parts of the city.A viewer shared a video with FOX 5 showing maybe eight to nine illegal riders going through the intersection of 7th and K Streets. UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Police in Upper Darby say an infant girl who was inside a car when it was stolen Wednesday night has been safely located and the man suspected of stealing the vehicle is in police custody, sources tell FOX 29’s Steve Keeley.The Upper Darby Police Department tweeted a photo of a gray Hyundai Elantra with New Jersey license plates that was taken from 69th street around 5:30 p.m. with the child still inside.Police Superintendent Tim Bernhardt told FOX 29 the mother of the child was picking up a food order for a delivery service when the car was stolen.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police officials say the South Philadelphia school placed on a lockdown was given the all-clear after officers and K9 inspected the situation.About an hour earlier, the Stanton School was placed on a lockdown after a live round was found inside the school building.Officials said the incident happened Thursday morning, around 11:30, on the 900 block of South 17th Street.School district police placed the school on the lockdown after someone found a live round on the gym floor, inside the school.Philadelphia police, with K9, inspected the premises and cleared the incident around 12:40 Thursday afternoon.

PHILADELPHIA - A man has died after police say he was stabbed multiple times in North Philadelphia.Police responded to the 2600 block of North 4th Street shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Officers arrived on scene to find a 43-year-old man had been stabbed three times in the neck, and once under his right arm. Paramedics rushed the victim to Temple University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. No weapon was recovered at the scene, and no arrests have been made.

Antonio Lamotta, Joshua Macias (Philadelphia Police Department) PHILADELPHIA - Two Virginia men who were convicted of weapons charges in an incident during the 2020 election were each sentenced to 11.5 to 23 months behind bars Wednesday.Joshua Macias and Antonio LaMotta were charged following a Nov. 2020 incident in which they were found with guns an ammunition near the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia where votes were being counted. Following their arrests, prosecutors argued that Macias, co-founder of Vets for Trump, and LaMotta planned a mas shooting as the outcome of the presidential election remained uncertain.

CHICAGO - A Chicago police officer was shot Wednesday on the city's South Side.Fire officials say the shooting occurred in the 5200 block of S. Spaulding Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood.The officer was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.

PHILADELPHIA - A former Philadelphia council member convicted along with a prominent labor leader in a federal public corruption case has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.Prosecutors say Bobby Henon, a former union electrician who was elected to the city council in 2011, got a no-show job from the union to ensure he did its bidding. Also convicted was John Dougherty, longtime business manager of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.Henon was convicted in November 2021 of 10 counts including conspiracy, bribery, and honest services mail and wire fraud.He choked back tears Wednesday as he told the judge he never viewed his paycheck as a bribe and tried his best to help everyone in Philadelphia, "especially those who were vulnerable and those in need" — but "by putting the interest of my union first, I failed you."Henon was fined $50,000 and ordered to hand over $207,000, which is how much he received from Dougherty and Local 98, the newspaper reported.He was ordered to report to prison April 17.

(via PennDOT/95revive.com) PHILADELPHIA - Preliminary construction began this week on a project that would reconnect Philadelphia to the Delaware River waterfront. On Monday, PennDOT gave its contractor approval to begin work on covering I-95 between Chestnut and Walnut Streets to help connect Old City and Penn’s Landing. The ‘Central Access Philadelphia’ – or CAP project – has been years in the making and is part of a huge project that will coast nearly $330 million. The project touts two main features, including a new park at Penn’s Landing and a new bridge at South Street. Both will also extend over Columbus Boulevard and onto the Delaware River Trail. The new park will span 11.5 acres between Chestnut and Walnut Streets.

The man is seen walking towards the entrance of Masjidullah before turning away and immediately heading towards the back of the building. Officials say the man spray-painted Masjidullah's doors and a brand-new refrigerator used for their food pantry.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man is facing charges after prosecutors said he stalked and groped a teenager girl who was on her way to work aboard a SEPTA bus earlier this year. Prosecutors allege Elmange Watson, 25, followed a 17-year-old girl onto a SEPTA bus at Frankford Terminal the morning of Jan. 22.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have launched an investigation after a student found a gun in her backpack at a North Philadelphia school Monday morning. "As school began this morning, a student communicated to her teacher that a firearm was present in her backpack. This young student was keenly aware that this weapon was dangerous and should not be in school with her," said the statement from Bryan Carter, Gesu School President. Carter said the student's backpack and gun were confiscated immediately, and the police were notified.

PHILADELPHIA - Police in Reading, Pennsylvania, are investigating a swatting call from out of state that prompted a police presence at a fast food restaurant. Authorities say on Sunday, just before 10: 15 a.m., officers responded to a threat against the Wendy's on Lancaster Avenue. Police say information they received indicated an armed suspect was possibly hiding in a dumpster at the restaurant. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to authorities, crews responded and cleared the dumpster. Police say the swatting call came from outside of the state. No additional information was released by authorities.

KINGSESSING - A Philadelphia firefighter was seriously injured while fighting a house fire Saturday morning.Officials with the department said the firefighter Randy Ballinger was working with his colleagues to douse a fire on the 1100 block of South Paxon Street early Saturday morning, around 7 a.m., in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood.According to authorities, the firefighter was seriously injured after falling from the roof of the two-story rowhome that was on fire.MORE HEADLINES:The man’s colleagues on the scene began to treat his multiple injuries, and he was then rushed by medics to a local hospital for treatment.According to a fundraiser for Ballinger, he suffered a concussion, torn aorta, collapsed lung, broken ribs, broken pelvis, a compound ankle fracture and multiple bone fractures in both his legs. A GoFundMe has since raised over $45,000 for Ballinger's medical expenses. Approximately seven people were displaced as a result of the fire.
