PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say one person was killed and at least a dozen others were injured in shootings across Philadelphia on Thursday. Six of the shootings happened within an hour span on Thursday afternoon, according to police. Starting around 2 p.m., officers in different parts of the city responded to a pair of double shootings and a triple shooting. Police said a young man was fatally shot in the head on the 400 block of Maton Street in South Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA - On a day when at least a dozen people were injured in shootings in Philadelphia, teens at City Hall staged a "die-in" to call attention to the gun violence crisis. Motiva Johnson organized the symbolic event to urge Philadelphia leaders to dedicate a larger portion of the city's budget to community investment programs.Each student who participated in the "die-in" laid within a chalk outline drawn on the sidewalk for roughly two minutes and thirty seconds; one second for each person who has been shot and killed in Philadelphia this year. Johnson and his group weren't the only ones calling for action to combat the scourge of gun violence plaguing Philadelphia. Ryan Harris and members of his non-profit organization "As I Plant This Seed" were organizing a donation drive Thursday. "As I Plant This Seed" offers free programs to youths including boxing, etiquette, self-defense, chess and guitar.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating six separate shootings, in the span of one hour, in which one person was killed and nine others were injured Thursday afternoon.According to officials, the first shooting happened in Kensington, near F and Lippincott Street Thursday afternoon, around 1:45. A woman is at Temple in stable condition.Within 20 minutes, another shooting happened in Belmont, where three people were shot on the 4000 block of Wallace Street. A 24-year-old man is in stable condition, while a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old male are both in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.Around 2:10 Thursday afternoon, a shooting was reported in South Philadelphia, on the 400 block of Manton Street.

NEW YORK - Frank R. James, 62, the sole suspect in the shooting of 10 people aboard an N train in Sunset Park will be arraigned Thursday in federal court in downtown Brooklyn. James faces federal terrorism-related charges and could spend the rest of his life in prison if found guilty of throwing smoke grenades and opening fire on a crowded train during the morning rush earlier in the week.After a 30-hour manhunt, James was arrested without incident after a tipster — thought by police to be James himself — said he could be found near a McDonald’s on the Lower East Side.

PHILADELPHIA - Wawa is celebrating its 58th Anniversary Thursday, April 14, by offering free coffee of any size at all locations. The convenience store chain says they expect to give away about 2 million free cups of coffee at its more than 960 stores. Customers can simply head into their local store and grab there favorite hot beverage from the self-serve bar. There is a limit of one per customer and includes sizes up to 24 ounces. Wawa locations will also be honoring one customer as their store’s official ‘Day Brightener’ acknowledging the positivity they spread throughout their community.

GLENOLDEN, Pa. - The Briarcliffe Fire Department on Wednesday voted to disband itself, months after the department came under fire for allegedly racist comments made by members following an online meeting. The announcement came during a packed meeting at the Upper Darby Municipal building. Township Solicitor Michael Pierce read Briarcliffe Fire Department's letter, often time being interrupted by the passionate crowd. "Briarcliffe strongly denies anyone in the township was ever treated differently or discriminated against based on race," Pierce read.

DARBY, Pa. - An employee of St. Francis Country House is facing charges after they were accused of assaulting an elderly resident earlier this week. On Monday at around 5 p.m., Darby Borough police say they were dispatched to the nursing home on Lansdowne Ave. Upon arrival, officers say they met with an employee of the nursing home who told them that a nurse witnessed a nursing assistant, later identified as Ednise Dulcio, strike a resident. Police say the incident was caught on video, and that Dulcio can be seen striking a 92-year-old resident with an open hand while the resident was sitting in their wheelchair. After speaking with the witness, police say they learned that Dulcio struck the resident prior to the incident that was captured on video. Authorities say Dulcio was arrested in her home on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m.

(Miami-Dade Corrections) MIAMI - Police in South Florida arrested a mother accused of murdering her two young children in their apartment after officers responded to repeated 911 hang-up calls coming from the home and found the bodies of both children tied up on a bed."Come get them, I don't want them anymore," 41-year-old Odette Lysse Joassaint told officers who responded to the scene on Tuesday night, according to the arrest report. Police said she appeared to be irrational.The officers entered the apartment and found a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl.

VICTORVILLE, Calif. - A store owner has been arrested for attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a 9-year-old girl at a mall in Victorville. The owner was reportedly shooting at suspected shoplifters when he struck the girl with a stray bullet, investigators said Wednesday.The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to a call from the Mall of Victor Valley at around 6:30 p.m.

Rafiq Thompson of Philadelphia was charged with the murder of a pregnant woman in Upper Merion after turning himself in to authorities.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man who was wanted for the murder of a pregnant woman in Upper Merion on Friday has been charged after turning himself in, the Montgomery County District Attorney announced. According to officials, 38-year-old Rafiq Thompson is facing first-degree murder and related charges connected to the shooting death of 31-year-old Tamara Cornelius last week. Police say the shooting took place at an Exxon gas station before 11 p.m. on North Gulph Road and West Dekalb Pike. Officers arrived on scene and found Cornelius lying in the gas station parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, authorities say. PREVIOUS: $5K reward offered in search for suspect accused of killing pregnant woman in Upper MerionShe was transported to Paoli Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m., according to investigators. Officials say the investigation revealed that Cornelius and the suspect were in a prior relationship and had met up briefly before she went to have dinner at The Cheesecake Factory. According to investigators, Thompson followed Cornelius as she left the restaurant at 10:15 p.m., walked to the parking garage and then drove to the Exxon gas station. Police say as she was pumping gas when Thompson got out of the car, spoke to her and shot her. He continued to shoot her as she tried to get away, authorities say. A $5,000 reward is being offered for information on the whereabouts of Rafiq Thompson.

NEW YORK - Frank James, the man the NYPD identified as a person of interest in connection with the Brooklyn subway attack Tuesday morning, posted a string of antagonistic video rants to a YouTube channel for years. Wednesday morning New York Mayor Eric Adams announced that James was considered a suspect, and no longer a person of interest, in Tuesday's shooting. Using titles like "DOMESTICATED AVERAGES" and "SENSIBLE VIOLENCE," James posted hour-long, profanity-laced rants about race, politics and current events.

NEW YORK - Authorities are searching for a Philadelphia man who they believe rented a U-Haul van in connection Tuesday morning's subway shooting in Brooklyn that left dozens hurt. Chief James Essex said police are searching for 62-year-old Frank R. James who they believe is the renter of the U-Haul van.

PHILADELPHIA - It’s not uncommon to hear about cash thefts at gas stations, but one gas station owner says they are dealing with candy thieves—and it’s getting out of control.Early Tuesday morning, just before 3:45 AM, surveillance cameras at PnP Gas on East Hunting Park Avenue say their surveillance cameras captured two people loading up bags of their candy.The store owner says when the pair tried to leave without paying for it, and realized an employee locked them in, they broke the door to escape."It’s very, very frustrating," store manager James Gill said.Philadelphia police are investigating a series of candy thefts at gas stations. Store employees believe one man is consistently behind the crimes and others will help.

Delaware State Police arrest 50-year-old Richard Cook for his 8th DUI offense.  GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police arrested a man and charged him with his eighth DUI offense after a crash on Monday. On April 11, just before 3:00 p.m., state troopers responded to an accident in Georgetown, Del. Police say when they arrived to the scene, they found a black Nissan Quest, which had overturned onto its side in a wooded area near Dupont Boulevard. Police say Richard Cook, 50, was behind the wheel and two passengers, a 49-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, both sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Bayhealth Sussex Hospital. Police conducted a DUI investigation and took Cook in to custody at the scene. After searching Cook's vehicle, police say they found 2.04 grams of marijuana, suspected liquid heroin, drug paraphernalia, 2 fixed-knife blades, and a firearm. Authorities learned that Cook's driver's license was suspended, and he had been convicted for seven prior DUI offenses. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, and other related offenses. Cook was committed on a $39,501 cash bond.

The driver of the Sonic lost control and struck the guardrail on the left side of the interstate.

NEW YORK - At least 13 people have been injured including five who were shot inside a subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, according to police.  A smoke device was also set off.  Several unexploded devices have been found at the station.The suspect remains at-large.

Frank Deshields, 52, of New Castle is being sought in connection to the fatal stabbing of a man outside of a New Castle motel.  NEW CASTLE, Del. - Police in Delaware are searching for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing a man outside of a motel in New Castle on Sunday. According to Delaware State Police, 52-year-old Frank Deshields is being sought by authorities. Police say troopers responded to The Super Lodge on West Avenue for a reported stabbing. According to authorities, troopers found a 45-year-old New Castle man outside of the motel with a stab wound to his upper torso. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities say. Investigators say Deshields is a suspect in the case and an arrest warrant was obtained for first-degree murder and weapon charges. The investigation is active and ongoing, according to authorities.
