Meyes Recreation Center. Members of Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood gathered Monday to share ideas about ways to combat the scourge of gun violence plaguing the city.  The hope is to reduce gun violence by finding solutions from within communities through four goals or strategies: Connecting to and helping you thrive, Coordinating city services and planning, creating strong community engagement and partnerships, and safer and healthier neighborhoods. "What do they need more of? What are some things they see missing in the community?" Senior Director of Criminal Justice and Public Safety Erica Atwood said.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say three people were hurt when a pair of motorcycles collided and smashed into a parked 18-wheeler on Roosevelt Boulevard Monday night. Emergency crews were called to the area of Roosevelt Boulevard and Rising Sun Avenue around 9:30 p.m. for reports of a "severe accident." Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that a 38-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were riding a motorcycle together on the outer lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard when they collided with a 30-year-old woman on another bike. The collision caused one of the bikes to slam into a parked 18-wheeler, according to Small.

Some years we get a lot more wasps early in the season but this time of year, it's spring, all the wasps are going to be coming out.

PHILADELPHIA - What started off as a painting is now Philadelphia's newest sculpture. On Sunday, the new "OY/YO" sculpture was installed outside the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History on 5th and Market Streets in Old City. "It's two little letters that speak to many, many communities," said Deborah Kass, the artist behind the eight feet tall sculpture. "OY/YO," depending on which side you look at the sculpture, will either read "YO" or "OY." Kass says "Yo" is a greeting term in many communities and "Oy" is a Yiddish term that signifies exasperation or worry. When you walk up to the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, the "YO" side of the sculpture is outfacing. Kass says she decided to have "YO" facing museum visitors because she likes the welcome that it represents. Kass created the first painting of "OY" in 2010 before creating its counterpart, "YO" a year later."In 2011, I made "YO" because I saw a reflection of "OY" in a window and the painting made itself," said Kass.In 2015, Kass created her first large "OY/YO" sculpture, which started out in between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges in New York City.

PHILADELPHIA - The former Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old TJ Siderio in South Philadelphia has been charged with murder, District Attorney Larry Krasner announced Monday. According to Krasner, former officer Edsaul Mendoza is facing multiple charges including first-degree murder, third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting. Mendoza is in custody and being held without bail, Krasner said during a Monday morning press conference, adding that no bail is normal for the seriousness of the charges. Police say four plainclothes officers in an unmarked car were patrolling the area near the 1700 block of Barbara Street around 7 p.m. on March 1 when they spotted two juveniles on bikes. According to investigators, officers noticed that one of the juveniles was armed with a handgun and turned on the emergency lights to confront him.

PHILADELPHIA - Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating a shooting that injured a man in West Mount Airy on Sunday night. According to police, officers from the 14th District responded to W Weaver Street for a report of a person with a gun. Authorities say officers arrived and found a man exiting a property on West Sharpnack Street onto Weaver Street. ___MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot multiple times in both arms, his right leg and left hand, police say. According to authorities, he was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police say his car was found resting halfway on the sidewalk and it was struck multiple times by gunfire. AdvertisementThe investigation is ongoing and police say they believe four to five suspects may have been involved.

India reported 3,157 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of active cases to 19,500, the union health ministry said on Monday.

Emmerdale star has begged her followers to get mammograms after believing her cancer could have been caught sooner. Czar McMichael, 22, is facing murder charges after allegedly killing his grandfather and another man in Logan.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man has been arrested and faces murder charges after he fatally shot his grandfather and another man who may be a relative in Logan.  PREVIOUS: Police: 2 bodies found inside home of man, 67, missing from LoganAuthorities say the double murder scene was discovered on the 4600 block of North Broad Street in the city's Logan neighborhood at 4:42 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a person with a gun, authorities say. According to police, the decomposed body of a person was found shot on the third floor of the residence and the body of a 45-year-old man was also found fatally shot in the home. Investigators learned that on April 28, 67-year-old Benjamin McMichael went into the bedroom that belonged to his grandson, 22-year-old Czar McMichael, and complained about the condition, police say. When Benjamin McMichael grabbed his grandson's arm, Czar McMichael spun around and fatally shot him, according to police. Days later, on the afternoon of April 30, a witness and 45-year-old Anthony Ham went to the residence on North Broad Street to check on Benjamin McMichael, who they had not heard from for several days, authorities say. According to police, Ham entered the home through a window and then opened the door for the unnamed witness. While checking the home, Ham confronted Czar McMichael on the third floor and they got into a verbal altercation, police say. Authorities say Czar McMichael then shot Ham multiple times before fleeing the home as the witness called 911. He was stopped and arrested on N.
