Authorities say turner will face murder, robbery, and criminal conspiracy charges and that a second suspect remains at large. Turner's arrest comes almost three months after Hyram Hill Jr., 24, was shot and killed following what investigators believe was an attempted robbery near Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue. Around 4:30 a.m.

Richard Lawrence  MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A Philadelphia man has been charged in a string of robberies over the past two months, authorities announced Friday. On April 22, police say a man demanded a teller give him "all the 50s and 100s" at TD Bank on the 2900 block of Moreland Road in Montgomery County. The license plate of the suspected getaway car, which was recovered in Philadelphia, was registered to Richard Lawrence, according to investigators.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia police officer who was fired amid accusations that he beat a woman in front of her toddler during unrest in 2020 is now facing charges in the incident, according to the District Attorney’s office. The incident occurred in Oct. 2020, during demonstrations in the days after Philadelphia police officers fatally shot Walter Wallace Jr. Officer Darren Kardos was suspended and later fired in relation to the encounter that left Rickia Young battered and bruised. On Thursday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that Kardos has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief. Young has said she was watching the news when she saw that protests over Wallace’s death had broken out in West Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA - Catalytic converter thefts are up in Philadelphia since last year, according to police. The recent spike in thefts combined with supply chain issues and worker shortages, is making for a long wait time at the shop and an expensive bill for victims of catalytic converter theft. Authorities say there were more than 3,400 thefts in 2021 and now in 2022, there has been more than 1,300 so far. Depending on the car you own, local auto repair shops say that it could take a month or longer to get the necessary car parts in. Mike Schafer, owner of Schafer’s Auto in South Philadelphia, says that in his 21 years of running the auto shop, he’s never seen anything like what’s been happening recently—6 to 13 cut catalytic converters a week from mostly Mitsubishis, Hondas, and Toyota Priuses."Three days, one month, 3 months wait time for them [parts] to come in," Schafer said.

PHILADELPHIA - Masks are back in Philadelphia, but when and where you are required to wear them can be confusing. As of this week, Philadelphia is under an indoor mask mandate that was announced after the health department noted an uptick in new COVID-19 infections. The all encompassing mandate was thrown for a loop, however, when a federal judge in Florida struck down the national mask mandate for public transportation that was recently extended by the Centers for Disease Control. The Justice Department said Tuesday it will not appeal the federal district judge’s ruling that ended the nation’s mask mandate on public transit unless the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention believes the requirement is still necessary.In a statement released a day after a Florida judge ended the sweeping mandate, which required face coverings on planes and trains and in transit hubs, Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said officials believe that the federal mask order was "a valid exercise of the authority Congress has given CDC to protect the public health." He said it was "an important authority the Department will continue to work to preserve."Coley said the CDC had said it would continue to assess public health conditions, and if the agency determined a mandate was necessary for public health, the Justice Department would file an appeal.Philadelphia's health officials on Monday said it will bring back its indoor mask mandate on Apr.

PHILADELPHIA - A Delaware County family is advocating for awareness and training after they say a family member with autism was handcuffed during an outburst of frustration at a Philadelphia circus. Kevin Bradley, 31, has autism and is nonverbal but the joy a carnival brings him is palpable. Kevin's sister, Kylie Moreschi, who runs the non-profit Emmaus House that provides housing and services for adults with intellectual disabilities, described his love for carnivals as "one of his greatest joys in the world."Family members now fear that Kevin's joy is forever tarnished after an incident that unfolded last week at S.E.E.Y.A carnival in South Philadelphia. Moreschi said an Emmaus House staff member went with Kevin to the carnival run by Houghton Enterprises, Inc on Friday night.

Kareem Welton (Montgomery County District Attorney's Office)  NORRISTOWN, Pa. - Kareem Welton, the man accused of hit-and-run crashes in Manayunk and Collegeville in July 2021, is now facing additional charges, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele. On Tuesday, Steele's office announced additional charges against Welton, 41, including, first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, attempted robbery of a motor vehicle, accidents involving death or injury and related charges. Authorities say Welton went on a "spree of criminal behavior" that took place in the overnight hours between July 27 and July 28 and stretched from Center City to Trappe, Pa.

PHILADELPHIA - The trial for Philadelphia councilman Kenyatta Johnson and his wife has ended in a mistrial after days of jury deliberations. In January, Johnson, 46, and his wife Dawn Chavous, 40, were indicted on fraud charges in what officials called a "widespread corruption conspiracy." Federal authorities accused Johnson, who has been a councilman since 2012, of engaging in official actions in exchange for payments. Chavous is accused of entering into a "sham" consulting agreement with a nonprofit that was used to funnel payments to her husband, authorities say. Before being indicted, Johnson released a statement saying, "First, let me be clear: I am innocent.

COLOMBO (News 1st); One person has died and 12 others are injured after police opened fire to disperse protestors in Rambukkana, Sri Lanka on Tuesday (19) evening.Sri Lanka Police confirmed that the police opened fire to disperse a group of protestors who were obstructing the Rambukkana Railway Crossing since early morning.Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said police issued warnings to the protestors to leave the area, however they did not comply.He added that the protestors thereafter attempted to set fire to a fuel bowser, as well as a three-wheeler causing damaging to property.The Police Spokesperson said that in order to disperse the crowd police officers fired tear gas, and thereafter the protestors started hurling rocks as the protestors.Thereafter, in order to control the situation police had opened fire and several people were injured.The injured were rushed to the Kegalle Hospital for treatment, while several police officers were also assaulted and they too are being moved to the hospital, said the police spokesperson.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police confirmed on Tuesday (19) that the police opened fire to disperse a group of protestors who were obstructing the Rambukkana Railway Crossing since early morning.Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said police issued warnings to the protestors to leave the area, however they did not comply.He added that the protestors thereafter attempted to set fire to a fuel bowser, as well as a three-wheeler causing damaging to property.The Police Spokesperson said that in order to disperse the crowd police office fired tear gas, and thereafter the protestors started hurling rocks as the protestors.Thereafter, in order to control the situation police had opened fire and several people were injured.The injured were rushed to the Kegalle Hospital for treatment, while several police officers were also assaulted and they too are being moved to the hospital, said the police spokesperson.
