Cabinet approval to revise rooftop solar rates
COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara says that Cabinet approval has been granted to revise Rooftop Solar Tariff Rates. Accordingly, a two-tier current tariff rate of Rs 22 and Rs 15.50 will be revised to a flat rate of Rs 37 for less than 500KW and Rs 34.50 for above 500KW Rooftop Solar for 20 years. He added that these tariffs will be adjusted annually based on a formula.

USD 100Mn credit line from India for rooftop solar project
COLOMBO (News 1st) – A USD 100 million Line of Credit has been extended by the Government of India to install rooftop solar panels at select institutions.A progress review meeting was recently held at the Ministry of Power on the project recently, and according to the Minister Kanchana Wijesekara,  rooftop solar will be used to equip government institutions, schools, hospitals, universities, educational and vocational training institutions, military and police stations, district secretariats, regional secretariats and places of religious worship. In addition to the Minister and State Minister of Power and Energy, officials from the High Commission of India, Sustainable Energy Authority and Ceylon Electricity Board participated in the event.

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said that the Coal Tender awarded on August 25th was cancelled by the Cabinet yesterday (22)."The selected supplier has communicated the inability to perform the tender sighting concerns on the impact on legal cases filed & payment guarantee risk", Minister Wijesekara tweeted.Further Lanka Coal Company will publish a new International Open Competitive Tender that will allow any suitable supplier that can provide Coal on a long-term credit basis."To fulfill the immediate requirements, the balance of 19 Cargos from last year's tender will be advanced", Minister tweeted.
