Guwahati: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's health condition deteriorated with multi-organ failure and he has become unconscious with difficulty in breathing, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. The 86-year old veteran Congress politician, who was on Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) since he was admitted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on November 2 due to post-COVID complications, was put under invasive ventilation, the minister said.

GUWAHATI : The health condition of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, admitted to the ICU of GMCH following post-COVID-19 complications, has marginally improved on Friday, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.A video-conference was held with the Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, Dr Ranjit Guleria and the doctors attending on him at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital here to review the medical treatment given to him, Sarma said.

Covid-19: Assam govt preparing SOP to implement Gauhati HC directives

GAUHATI : Assam government is preparing a standard operating procedure (SOP) to implement the directives of Gauhati High Court on adherence to COVID-19 protocol issued by the health department, state Minister for Health and Family Welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.The Gauhati High Court had expressed deep concern over the rise in coronavirus cases and made the police and deputy commissioners personally liable so as to ensure that the directives and protocols issued by the state health department to check the spread of the contagion is maintained in public places, the minister told a press conference here.The situation in the state is alarming with an average of 3000 new cases of coronavirus reported daily for the last three days.

Seven more die of COVID-19 in Assam; toll rises to 86

GUWAHATI : Seven more COVID-19 patients died in Assam on Monday, taking the toll to 86, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.The latest fatalities include a 26-year-old woman from Guwahati and a 59-year-old forest official from East Karbi Anglong district, he said.A 72-year-old doctor from Dibrugarh and another person from Jorhat district also lost their lives due to the infection.Three people, including a woman, from Tinsukia district also died during the day, the minister said.The state has so far reported 32,228 cases of COVID-19.There are 8,106 active cases at present, while 24,040 patients have recovered and three have migrated out of the state, Sarma said.This story has been published from a wire agency feed without modifications

First covid-19 death from medical fraternity in Assam, 1,001 new cases reported

GUWAHATI : Four more COVID-19 patients, including a senior doctor of the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), died and 1,001 new cases were reported on Monday, taking Assam's infection tally to 17,807, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.The death toll of novel coronavirus patients in the state has risen to 45 but the Death Audit Board is yet to ascertain whether five of these had the "underlying cause of death" as COVID-19.The state has reported 1,001 new cases and out of these, 513 are from Guwahati, Sarma said.This is the second highest single-day spike in cases so far, he said.The highest single-day spike of 1,202 cases was reported on July 4.

Assam govt lists conditions for covid patients seeking home quarantine

GUWAHATI : The Assam government would allow non-symptomatic COVID-19 positive patients to go for home quarantine only if they sign an undertaking agreeing to certain conditions, Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. Such patients have to ensure that their neighbours and housing societies have no objection to their home quarantine, there are no elderly persons in the family and they have a private physician to check their health condition every three hours, he said.Besides, they need to have a pulse oximeter at home and should be able to reach in personal vehicle to a hospital, in case their condition deteriorates, Sarma told a press conference here.
