Rapid increase of Fatal Road Traffic accidents: Sri Lanka Police

COLOMBO (News1st): Sri Lanka Police said that there is an increase in road accidents in the country.Five deaths were reported due to road traffic accidents in the 24-hour window that ended this morning, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.As of now, a total of 580 people have been killed in fatal road accidents since the 01st of January 2021.Sri Lanka Police are conducting special traffic operations to apprehend drivers who drive under the influence, indisciplined drivers, and those who violate road rules and regulations, DIG Ajith Rohana further added.

COLOMBO (News1st): The Police have launched an investigation into an incident involving reckless driving along the Southern Expresway.Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the manner in which the passengers were travelling is in violation of the Motor Traffic Act.The investigation was launched after a widespread video circulating on social media.According to the Police, inquiries made from the Department of Motor Traffic have shown that the vehicle is registered under the of an individual who resides in Kandy.
