The latest statistics from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that in August 2022 there were 5.6 million people across the UK receiving financial support through Universal Credit, a benefit intended to help those out of work or on a low income with daily living costs.

While many people are trying to find a job, better paid employment or a second income, many claiming Universal Credit or JobSeeker's Allowance may be unaware that Personal Independence Payment (PIP) supports 547 health conditions.

If you have been living with a physical or mental health condition, long-term illness or a disability, you may be able to claim PIP - or Adult Disability Payment if you're a new claimant in Scotland - on top of any other benefit without being penalised.

PIP is a benefit for those over 16 and under State Pension age and the latest DWP figures show that there are now more than three million people across the UK claiming PIP, with 329,334 living in Scotland.

Key findings on Supreme Court ruling on Easter Attacks against Sirisena, Pujith & Co.
COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka's Supreme Court on Thursday (12) found Former President Maithripala Sirisena, his Defence Secretary, the Police Chief during his time, as well as the then Chief of National Intelligence, and Director of State Intelligence guilty of violating fundamental right.11 Fundamental Rights petitions were filed with the Supreme Court, claiming that the Sri Lankan administration failed to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks, despite having information about an imminent attack. The applications contain revelations of reckless failure on the part of the Executive Branch of the government and the Petitioners allege that these illegal omissions effectively betray the people and public trust by recklessly failing to take cognizance and accord due priority to intelligence information received regarding the premeditation of the attacks which could have been prevented if proactive and timely response had been taken. The respondents named in the petitions are Former President Maithripala Sirisena, Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, Former Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara, Former National Intelligence Service Chief Sisira Mendis, and Former State Intelligence Services Chief Nilantha Jayawardena.Maithripala Sirisena:The Supreme Court observed that multiple gazettes bestowed 23 duties on the President as a Minister of Defence, thus an increase of duties vested in the Minister. The Supreme Court observed that an exponential range of powers over security continued to be bestowed on Minister of Defence as the years rolled by and it cannot be gainsaid that the Minister of Defence was the repository of the national security of the country. The Supreme Court noted that the custody of personal liberty and

Wasantha writes to the people of Sri Lanka from prison
COLOMBO (News 1st) – Convenor of the Inter University Students Federation Wasantha Mudalige who was placed under remand custody after being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act addressed an open letter to the people of Sri Lanka. The letter states that the Aragalaya must be chosen to ensure the right to life, and that the student movement is ready to make any sacrifice to achieve this. In his letter, Wasantha Mudalige says that while the real terrorists roam free, the people who have been branded as terrorist languish in prison. He says that the 1st of January was his 135th day in prison after fighting for the welfare of the society and calling for economic and political change in the country. He added that there are many more people who fought for the same cause languishing in jail. He further points out that the lives of people in the middle class have collapsed due to the crisis, and says that the situation would completely wipe out a middle-class in society.Wasantha Mudalige says that the aspirations of the People's struggle have not yet been accomplished, and adds that the Ranil Rajapaksa Junta continue to act as they did before. Wasantha Mudalige further states that the government has launched a massive smear campaign to discredit the people's struggle with the intention of covering up their own failures and ineptitude. He points out that all people must unite despite such smear campaigns launched by the government. In his open letter, Wasantha Mudalige adds that this is only the begining of the Aragalaya and that the people's struggle is far from over.

Adele forced to 'waddle' around Vegas stage as she battles 'really bad' health condition
Adele, 34, has been taking Las Vegas by storm since mid November, and will continue to croon for fans until March - but her rescheduled concert dates have been far from easy, as she admitted onstage recently. The Set Fire To The Rain singer has been battling a secret bout of sciatica, and is now forced to "waddle" around the stage. She let slip the impact that the painful nerve condition has had on her after fans spotted her struggling to walk smoothly."I’ve got two more, I’ve just got to get over to the other side of the stage," she announced as she attempted to hand out T-shirt launchers to the audience. She added: "I have to waddle these days as I have really bad sciatica.”According to the NHS website, the condition is most commonly caused by a slipped disc which compresses the sciatic nerve, and it causes intense shooting pain that flows from the lower back all the way down to the feet.Numbness, tingling, and pins and needles sensations are among the other uncomfortable symptoms.Sufferers typically recover within around six weeks but Adele hasn't been so lucky - in fact, the songstress previously admitted that she has endured back pain for years.Shockingly, she admitted that she had slipped her first disc due to sneezing aggressively at the age of 15 - and it was the same way that subsequent discs "flew out", too.She lamented that, by the time she had a C-section, her core had become "useless"."I’ve been in pain with [it] for, like, half of my life, really," she agonised to The Face."It flares up, normally due to stress or from a stupid bit of posture."Adele has certainly been through her fair share of stress in life, including a painful divorce from charity boss Simon Konecki, who is the father of her son Angelo, now
