SPRING GARDEN - In light of the school shooting in Texas, a long list of Pennsylvania officials, gun violence survivors and advocates rallied Friday in Philadelphia."This event seems to take aim at Republicans in the state, are you blaming them for deaths of children?" People who don’t want to take a vote on life-saving legislation and don’t want to put up considered bills. That’s something I’m willing to do because they’re costing lives," stated Adam Garber, from CeaseFirePa.Hundreds gathered at Congregation Rodeph Shalom to directly respond to Republican legislative leaders, including Speaker of the House Bryan Cutler and House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff, who denied a vote on proposed gun safety laws this week."Did you know that gun violence is now the number one cause of death in children and teens in America?

That is horrendous and unacceptable. And what’s the republican leadership in Pa. doing about it? Nothing," Gov. FOX 29's Steve Keeley has the latest.A 50-year-old man driving a Hyundai was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, authorities say. The vehicle that struck the officer's car was a BMW with an 18-year-old driver and two teenage passengers, police say. None of the individuals in the BMW were injured and they denied medical treatment, according to officials. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators say the Hyundai was traveling west on Rennard Street crossing Bustelon Avenue as the BMW was going south on Bustleton Avenue. The BMW struck the passenger side of the Hyundai, jumped the curb and then struck a tree, per authorities. Police say a witness spoke to accident investigators and say the BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed. Small says through the investigation,  police learned the driver of the Hyundai was an active Philadelphia police officer who had just finished the night shift and was driving home in his personal vehicle. The officer was a 27-year veteran with the Philadelphia Police Department, according to Small. "It's a real tragedy," Small said.

Pennsylvania house votes against taking up gun bill after Texas killings
(Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) HARRISBURG - An effort by Democratic lawmakers in Pennsylvania to ban owning, selling or making high-capacity, semi-automatic firearms went nowhere Wednesday as state House Republicans again displayed their firm opposition to gun restriction proposals. The state House of Representatives voted 111-87 against the effort by Democratic Rep. Danielle Friel Otten of Chester County to take up the bill after Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff argued it should have to go through a committee first. The bill has spent more than a year in the Judiciary Committee, where Chairman Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, has bottled up most proposals to regulate or restrict firearms.During floor debate, Otten said the massacre of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday created a "moral obligation to act, today, before this happens one more time."Minority Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, listed communities across Pennsylvania that have recently been the site of gun violence. The bill would not apply retroactively and result in people losing firearms they already lawfully bought, McClinton said.Benninghoff, R-Centre, responded that because of the "magnitude" of the proposal it "needs to be vetted through the committee process" so that lawmakers can "get it right."Just one Republican, Rep.
