Overseas travel not likely before August - Tánaiste

The Tánaiste has said that it will be August at the earliest when non-essential overseas travel will resume. However, he said it was still too early to give further clarity as there are many uncertainties.

During a virtual press conference this morning, Leo Varadkar told journalists that he expects the EU Digital Green Certificate to be in place by mid-June, with member states then having six weeks to adopt it.

Mr Varadkar also said that some form of Mandatory Hotel Quarantine will likely remain in place for "quite some time". He said he hopes that the Common Travel Area between Ireland and the UK will be restored "very soon", allowing people to travel to Britain without restrictions.
