There has been in increase in the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital. As of 8am, there were 453 people in hospital with the virus, which is an increase of 56 on the same time yesterday.
Of these, 24 are being treated in intensive care units. The most recent data shows that over half of patients in hospital are not there due to Covid-19 and others have contracted it in hospital.
In his most recent update on 3 June to the Minister for Health, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the number of Covid-19 infections was broadly stable.
He said that the pressure on hospitals remained significant, but stable. Dr Holohan described the overall Covid-19 situation as broadly positive, but added that there is a need to monitor developments including new variants.
