Northern Ireland records 149 new coronavirus cases, no new deaths

There have been a further 149 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland in the last 24-hour reporting period, the Department of Health has said.

This brings the total number of cases in the region to 8,780, including 689 in the last seven days. No further deaths from Covid-19 were reported today, leaving the death toll recorded by the department standing at 573.

Meanwhile, seven Covid notices have been issued to young people infringing the rules in Belfast's Holyland, police said. Three prohibition notices were made on properties hosting parties in the early hours of this morning.

Police powers to enforce coronavirus restrictions were made legally enforceable yesterday and the first fixed penalty notices cost £60 to discharge.
