North Korea has reported 15 additional deaths from "fever", days after officially confirming its first-ever Covid-19 cases and ordering nationwide lockdowns.

North Korea's state news agency has reported 21 new deaths from what it called a fever of unidentified origin and ordered nationwide lockdowns.

North Korea said 243,630 people had recovered and 280,810 remained in quarantine. State media didn’t specify how many of the fever cases and deaths were confirmed as COVID-19 infections.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has called for nationwide lockdowns after the nuclear-armed country confirmed its first-ever case of Covid-19, state media said.

Kim ordered “all cities and counties across the country to thoroughly lockdown their areas," so as to “completely block the transmission of malicious virus," according to KCNA.
